Penn State football fans now have less to cheer about this season. Graham Watson of Yahoo! Sports writes, "Sweet Caroline," which is a big fan participation song during games, is being cut because of the lyrics, more specifically the line "touching me, touching you."

Penn State made this decision in reaction to the conviction of Jerry Sandusky, the assistant coach
who sexually abused children.

Penn State received heavy sanctions from the NCAA and several players transferred out of the football program.

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM reports:
Don't expect to hear Neil Diamond's hit "Sweet Caroline" at Penn State football games this season. According to Cory Geiger, a writer for the Altoona Mirror, the song has been cut from the rotation along with several other tunes...

All the lols deserved for this one. But if they ban it they keep making news about it. Unless it was that coach that picked the song, leave school traditions alone. And I'm sure even if banned, students would still sing it.

Absolutely ridiculouse, twisted minded, pathetic, ludicrous, and coming from the minds of people with loose screws, and their elevator is not stopping on any floors. It's completely out of order.

This is getting rediculous... Penn State built up a great reputation through out the years and doesn't deserve to have it brought to end because of one individual who's sexual wires are crossed. I agree it wasn't handled correctly but to penalize the fans and the team is just not in the best interest of the school, players or the fans.... perhaps the best thing would be to replace the whole administrative staff as they seem to be asshamed of what happened and are not proud of their schools accomplishments.....

Well just cut those lyrics! On the radio they don't just cancel a song playing because of the lyrics, they cut them out! It makes some sense of cutting it because of the coach who was a pedo, but slot of people look forward to this song. This is turning into a rant.. Lol

Seems like a feeble attempt at damage control as an afterthought. I would think there would have to be a more practical way to put things right!

We Red Sox fans cannot figure out how this song came to be our so-called theme song. Fans have urged Fenway not to play it anymore. It's just stupid.
Good for Penn State. The song has nothing to do with sports of any kind. Real sports that is.

yes, save the song please. Even though there was more than touching that that wasted , sick man did, The song has nothing to do with what he did, but it also has nothing to do with sports, and does not fit.

Another hater. Punish the entire Penn State community; past, present, and future, because of the crimes of one man. That's what I call real justice.

That's what happens? Really Mary? Since when? It has happened once, so maybe you should rephrase that into "tough, that's what happened. f/deal with it". Actually I wish it would happen more often. For example, when politicians commit crimes the entire political party and everyone who voted for them should get punished.

yes, since this is about the fact that the song was taken away , and it was more than one man involved, the big guy knew, other guys knew, but the spineless representatives of the football team looked the other way, along with the guys wife. This is just one of the consequences, though there are many. Leaving out the song is not a punishment, the song was written for something other than other than football in the first place, ask Neil Diamond what he thinks about it, He wrote the song. Many people wish it would happen more often too.

Oh my good Lord!! What a wacky country you people live in! Anyone can get a gun so they can blow people's heads off . . . but watch out that the lyrics of a beloved classic song might offend someone!
  • Mary Pickles 2012/09/03 15:02:03

its all connected, people blow peoples head off probably because they have been abused by a pedophile, so, yes we do get offended, and these pukes have offended children, Talk to people in the can, how many of them have been sexually abused.

Like the lyrical overreaction after 9/11, this is PC Gone Wild! As a tasteful decision in sensitivity, I applaud their heads up attention to what might be a touchy issue. But whatever moron splashed this all over the front page of topics is an expert at throwing gasoline on fires! They should be working for TMZ instead, eh?

Neil Diamond SUCKS! How can anyone be subjected to such cruel and unusual punishment just for the crime of going to a sporting event? They also play Sweet Caroline at Red Sox games, which is why they are close to last place in the standings. I think it would be far more appropriate to play tunes like 'Helter Skelter' by the Beatles or 'Anyway There Ain't No Telephones In The Zoo' by The Psychopaths.

The song's about emotional and spiritual 'touching' ... and even if it was about physical touching, so freaking what? These days, it seems anything that fosters actual true intimacy between people -- particularly men with women -- is branded 'taboo' and discouraged. Resist this deliberately unhealthy trend! Bit by bit, everything that encompasses the glue of a healthy, happy society is being banned and vilified because of the actions of a relative handful of bad apples. They should be the ones pressured to change, not the rest of us!
