Be it the commercials, the halftime performance or the actual football game itself, there's no denying that lots of people tune in to the Super Bowl. Well apparently, this year, people tuned in more than ever before. Super Bowl XLVI was the most-watched Super Bowl to date, which also means that it was the most-watched television program ever because the Super Bowl is the most popular program to tune into.
According to Nielsen Fast National Data, 111.3 million viewers watched the Super Bowl Sunday night, which beats last year's viewership by about 300,000. The game also scored a 47.0 overnight rating and a 71 percent audience share. The Super Bowl XLVI takes the number one spot in the most-watched TV "Hall of Fame" but what are the other most-viewed programs in U.S. history? The Super Bowl XLV takes second place, Super Bowl XLIV takes third, the M*A*S*H series finale takes fourth (pretty out-of-place, right?) and the Super Bowl XLIII takes fifth place.
Judging from the record ratings, we've got to ask: Do you think next year's Super Bowl will go above and beyond Super Bowl XLVI -- and break another record? Or is this as good as it gets?

You want to see good football, watch the Vanier Cup in Canadian college football, and also pretty much any good college games in the U.S. are generally better than the Superbowl games. Give me a good college game over a pro ball game any day of the week. More exciting, more risk taking and just generally more fun to watch.
The Superbowl hype is much bigger than the actually quality of the game itself in my opinion.
As for the much-vaunted commericals during the Superbowl games, I never get to see them because where I live they are pre-empted by Canadian commercials, and THAT really sucks LOL.
Anyway, there are any number of events, sporting or otherwise, that beat the Superbowls time and time again.
But I am so glad NY won! Yeaaah!
What PERCENT watched the SB last year compared to this year?
