What should have been a marvelous night for everyone at a Sugarland concert on Saturday turned out to be one of the most tragic concert-related events in recent history.
An enormous gust of 60 mph wind reportedly hit the stage at the Indiana State Fairgrounds at 8:49 p.m., sending the entire structure toppling into the audience.
The collapse killed five people and injured more than 40 others.
Reporter David Lindquist, who was at the concert, recalled, "The gust of wind came, there was no rain yet and the production fell from left to right. And you could see, you could clearly see people were under the footprint of the rigging."
It's still unclear why the structure was not able to withstand the wind, but meteorologists and police investigators are claiming that because there was little to no damage elsewhere on the fairgrounds, the gust that toppled the stage must have been an unforeseeable "fluke."
Sugarland reached out to concerned fans via Twitter that night, writing, "We are all right. We are praying for our fans, and the people of Indianapolis. We hope you'll join us. They need your strength."
Our hearts go out to the families of Alina Bigjohny, Christina Santiago, Tammy Vandam, Glenn Goodrich and Nathan Byrd.

Fact is this type of thing is rare, heck there are out door concerts going on all the time, and the vast majority of them do not end like this . We can not stop living our lives due to fear of random acts.

I've always felt safe at a concert, but things happen that we can't predict.
My sympathy goes out to those familes that were hurt and to those who lost their loved ones in that tragedy.
Thos is sooo sad. My heart goes out to the families and friends of those killed and injured.
