Steve Martin Becomes a First-Time Dad at 67: Is It Ever Too Late to Have a Baby?

He may have played a father in some of his most famous roles -- like "Parenthood," the "Father of the Bride" movies or "Cheaper by the Dozen" -- but Steve Martin has only just become a real life dad for the first time -- at the age of 67.

According to the New York Post, the legendary comedian, actor, writer and musician had a baby with his wife, 41-year-old former New Yorker editor Anne Stringfield, back in December!

The happy couple were spotted near their Los Angeles home with their newborn baby, and an insider has said that "They've had a baby, and how they kept it a secret nobody knows" adding that "Steve's very private."

Martin is a notoriously private man: he and Stringfield were married in a quiet ceremony in July 2007 at his LA home, officiated by former Nebraska senator Bob Kerrey and attended by such celebs as Tom Hanks, Carl Reiner and Eugene Levy. Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels was the best man. Do you think it's ever too late to have a baby?

If he's anything like the guy we see on the set, he's gonna be an awesome Daddy. What a lucky child.

Less patience as one is older. Most celebs have nanny's anyway.

People seem to forget that children will grow up and love their parents no matter what. If someone can't run around with their children because they're old, does that mean that they don't love them? What about a paralysed parent? A blind parent? Everyone deals with difficulties, and everyone dies. Any child growing up with their parents will grow up with them as they are. It's not like they'll have anything taken away from them, because they'll never have had anything that age takes away. Not every child needs a dad to run around with them, but every child needs love. If there are parents out there for children who will care for them, then what's your problem?

The rules are different for the wealthy. For sure, not for Steve Martin or other wealthy men. Age is just a number for them. As long as they are rich, they can hire nannies, surrogates and set up fat trust funds for their children so they would always be provided for unlike the rest of us middle and lower middle class persons. Besides, he just wants to continue his gene pool among other reasons. Having said that, having a good health is no guaranty for immortality. He could cross the street and a runaway car could hit him and it's over. He was just seizing the moment to experience the joy of parenthood at his age.

Well the baby's there so it shows it's not too late for him to have a baby. Who knows? Maybe he'll be there for when the kid graduates...Middle school or something, he's not THAT old.

I'm 16 and my parents are in their mid 50's and that's hard enough. Just think, when the kid is 16, their dad will be 83 (my grandma isn't even that old!). They'll never get to run around and play baseball or whatever with him like they could if he was much younger.

If Steve is healthy, why not!? George Burns, Bob Hope, lived to be 100 and both of them smoked and drank, I don't believe Martin smokes and he looks a helluva lot better then I do and I just turned 60!

It is the quality of life, not the quantity of length. "Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all". That is one lucky kid!!!

The time frame should be the same as when woman can no longer conceive then that same rule should apply to old farts as well. When he is 77 years old his kid will be ten. Yak..

When their child graduates from high school, he will be 85 and she will be 59. Mother will likely be there, but the odds are that Dad will have already left the building. (Altho' Steve Martin probably takes good care of himself and MAY beat the odds. Still, I think it's a little late in life to begin raising a child.)

Steve Martin will be 85 years old at his kids high school graduation. To me, that seems more like the age of a Great Grandparent.

Women stop being able to have babies at a certain time in their lives because of their age and I feel that men should stop too. That child won't have a father when it really counts and that is sad.
