Meyer is not guilty... Meyer's Twilight books are original and do not take ideas from "The Nocturne"

"Twilight" author Stephanie Meyer has been accused of plagiarism by Jordan Scott, author of "The Nocturne." Jordan Scott claims that Meyer's "Breaking Dawn" has similarities, particularly in the sex-on-the-beach episode between Bella and Edward and the painful process of the conversion from a human to a vampire.

Jordan Scott also claims that as with the lovers in "The Nocturne," Edward calls Bella "love."

Despite his claims, Jordan Scott is not suing for monetary gain.

How do you feel about Stephanie Meyer being sued for "Breaking Dawn?" Do you think Meyer is guilty?

Meyers is a great writter. She didn't steal from anyone. Most stories have the same idea in them. So really there is no stealing from anyone.

Every book has there similarities with others and you cna't help it if part of ur book is kinda similar with other scenes in other books..you read so many books and you get your inspiration to write from other books too...So I don't know if she is guilty or not...There are so many vampire stories that you can't help it if the transformation part is the same or what ever..I know a friend who could name a ton of books with sex scenes on the beach and everything and then with the boyfriend calling the girlfriend love or whatever...I don't think that she would do something like that and nobody really knows if she did or not...only she does...and now that it has gotting so popular he is saying that she took from his book "Nocturne"...Whatever....

okay, first off, there r many reasons y Stephenie is not guilty. first off, there r a lot of other books where to man character will call the female character "love". next, has anyone every heard of an incubus, or succubus? that would explain the whole sex on the beach thing. that would also account for the wedding. another thing is the part about the human explaining how they turned into a vampire; who wouldnt write about a transformation like that? not only that but the Twilight Saga is very famous. for all we know Jordan is just suing Stephenie because twilight fans would buy her books to find out if its true or not. so by suing Meyer she is getting her book a lot of publicity. and another thing, is that if Jordan didnt want anyone to copy her books then heres a thought; DON'T PUT IT ON THE INTERNET!!! anyone can steal it that way. so wut some of u people who believe Stephenie diserves this, try to stop and think

Just because they share similar ideas in both books- which none of these similarities are original ideas- doesn't mean she ripped them off from J. Scott ( which is a she people). And I highly doubt that she did.
And would all you haters get off your high horses and get a life- it isn't her character or religion or writing style that are being contested here.

Jordan Scott is probably just jealous that Stephenie Meyer is so successful. I read both books and Scott's writing needs a lot of work. There are some vague similarities in the story lines... like sex on a beach after a wedding. Boy, that sure is original isn't it? She is simply looking for the attention that everyone is giving her with this lawsuit. Even though she will eventually be laughed out of court, she might sell some books and get her name out there in the mean time. Personally, I find it disgusting and I will never buy any of her stuff.

It's on TV now. Jordan Scott contacted Smeyer about a year ago when Breaking Dawn was just out, and asked her to stop publishing Breaking Dawn. Scott never went to the media, never asked for money and never tried to get any publicity or book deals. Smeyer went into hiding, took down her myspace page, won’t respond to the media and won’t issue a denial. Where is Smyer now? Why won’t she deny ripping off Scott? Oh and btw, what would you do if someone stole your work? Stole your ideas, and made millions off it. I doubt anyone here would like it. Oh and if you say this didn’t happen, let me come and take something of yours, obviously you won’t mind!

    Jordan is in the wrong:

Stephenie Meyer’s Claim Supported: AKA Copyright 101
    Posted by Twilight_News - 04/08/09 at 08:08 pm
First let us start out by saying that we are completely biased here. We have been online as a Stephenie Meyer fansite since March 2006. And because of our relationship built over three years with Stephenie Meyer, we have no reason to doubt her word. So when the story first broke today on TMZ, we decided to do several things:

    1. We looked at the version of the book in question that is available online
    2. We asked Little Brown the publishing company for an official response
    3. We started to research Ms. Scott herself

So we wrote up our preliminary findings here. Now what we found particularly interesting is that the attorney involved then decided to give a follow up to MTV. That’s right, MTV. It’s a unique tactic first TMZ now MTV. Could it be that he has something for initials, or is it possibly that those sites generally have a target audience that mirrors the demographic Ms. Scott’s novel and career are directed towards? Oh heck, maybe it’s just sheer coincidence.
As many of you know, much of Breaking Dawn came from Stephenie’s first sequel she wrote to Twilight called Forever Dawn. In fact, Alphie got to read this book back in February of 2006 and ...

In fact, Alphie got to read this book back in February of 2006 and stands by what Stephenie says on her website.

“The basic story [between Forever Dawn and Breaking Dawn] is the same. Bella and Edward get married and go to Isle Esme for their honeymoon. Bella gets pregnant with Renesmee. The birth just about kills Bella, but Edward makes her a vampire in time. Jacob imprints on Renesmee. Alice has a vision of the Volturi coming to destroy the Cullens with the “immortal child” as their excuse. Alice bails. Bella’s shielding abilities turn the tide in the Cullen’s favor, along with Alice bringing home another half-vampire to prove that Nessie isn’t a danger.”

We decided to do some more research. We wanted to see for ourselves when Ms. Scott actually copyrighted her book. Well we got a whole lot more than we bargained for. We not only looked up Ms. Scott, but Stephenie Meyer as well. We were after the date that Twilight was copyrighted. Little did we know that not only was Twilight copyrighted, but so is Forever Dawn. This was news to us.

The following information is readily viewable to anyone doing a simple site search at the copyright office. If anyone had thought to try this a year ago they would have had a hell of a spoiler in the name of the Application Title. additionally Stephenie has stated in various interviews and as reflected in her “craptstic covers” that she originally toyed around with publishing under a pen name that included her maiden name of Morgan. You can see that name reflected in the registration as well.

Now when one looks up Ms. Scott’s work what is discovered is that nothing was legally filed until AFTER, Breaking Dawn was published. Now the work itself (though not filed for copyright) was online starting in 2006 which is a full two years after Stephenie Meyer filed her Forever Dawn manuscript:

Wow, so Jordan Scott totally invented sex on the beach?!?! THAT DUDE KICK ASS! God I hope you can sense the sarcasm. BIG NEWS there guy...people have been writing romantic 'sex on the beach' stories longer than he's been alive. It's nothing new. Of course they're are going to be some 'similarities' in it. Sex on the beach can only go so many ways. Man where did this fuckin' genius crawl out of? As for Edward calling Bella 'love'....wow, seriously? Calling someone 'love' has been a pet name of sorts since the dawn of speech. I can't tell you how many times I've been called 'love'. If this dude really wants to sue her and win...he's going to need a better basis than a few 'similarities' that are common in just about every romantic novel written since the dawn of time. Douche.

Probably has some truth but if you read "ALL" the vampire stories out there for the past decades, then you would know that they all borrow from each other. Honestly, the Twilight series is rather unique don't you think? They don't burst into flames in the sunlight, they don't sleep underground or in coffins, they don't have to drink human blood. There is no sex, rather tame. I prefer Anne Rice or Charlane Harris more because I prefer graphic. But again, Twilight is a love story and was written for the more youthful crowd. I love the books and hope that Stephanie will keep the series alive.

I mean, in all reality, it's very hard to create a completely original vampire romance book -- there are only so many ideas that can go with the whole humanxvampire coupling. Just about every vampire book I've read has a shockingly similar plotline, but I won't call this incident plagarism simply because I haven't actually read Scott's "The Nocturne". I hate Twilight as much as the next girl who is sick of crazed pre-teen girls obsessing over it, but that doesn't mean I think Meyer should be sued over something that dozens of authors have done in regards to vampire romance novels.
