Stellar Revival Reps Rock and Roll: Who's Carrying the Torch for Rock Music Today?

Stellar Revival thinks of their music as "an homage to people who are different and really stand out ... someone who perseveres and goes against the grain." And in an age of endless revision and transient "new genres" -- dubstep, post-dubstep, chillwave, whatevercore, jazzstep, slip hop -- there's no better way to stand out and persevere than to to harness a timeless tradition like rock and roll and make it your own.

Rock and roll, defined by '50s and '60s legends like Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, The Rolling Stones, and The Who, is easily as rich and diverse as any contemporary movement, but maintains a strong tradition in songwriting, attitude, and approach. For Stellar Revival, the band that best encompasses the idea of rock and roll today is Foo Fighters, lead by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. Foo Fighters' Grammy-winning riffs have been carrying the torch for 18 years, but they can't do it on their own. Stellar Revival is up for the challenge.

Stellar Revival's first single, "The Crazy Ones," is about "people who don't take 'no' for an answer." Frontman Rino Cerbone says, "To me, those are the crazy ones. I think that's a force to be reckoned with and we need more of them." In a new press kit, the band discusses their approach to rock, the video for "Crazy Ones," a couple of other songs off their upcoming album, and most importantly, the tradition of rock and roll. Who do you think is carrying the torch today?

And while you're at it, check out Stellar Revival's Facebook or Twitter page!

Wasting Light was made in a garage on analog tape, debuted at #1 in 11 countries, and won 4 Grammys. That's no easy feat....

Rock and Roll has been drawn and quartered by pop culture and pretentious journalism. That said the Foo Fighters and the Chili Peppers are the only genuine rock bands on this list.

I don't think there as been any good rock n roll in the last 20 years. I love Tokio Hotel and they are sort of a rock band but not anything like Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, or KISS. I miss rock n roll

Kings of leon are the only "true' universal rock band in this day & age. Every album is completly different, and all are brillant.

When it comes to mainstream straight forward rock and roll no one does it better than The Black Keys or possibly Jack White. I used to like Foo Fighters but they got a bit boring though the last album was good.

I can respect the black keys, but jack white needs to lay off the hardcore drugs, or just have someone who isn't on hardcore drugs make his music videos.

The one I saw on the telly the other day was weird as hell.

Either that or just piss-poor videography skills.

    Perhaps both.

    Every band that tries.

Rock music will never die period. This goes out to any music in general. We live in a new age and it's harder to make music these days. Almost every idea has been used already, you can download pretty much everything for free, so that's why we haven't seen any "legends" recently. A lot of what is amazing right now is not even hitting the top 200. Support music by buying it and going to concerts.

Artists can make money when you scrobble their tracks on internet radio. The best thing you can do is tell a friend about the artist. Word of mouth is important.

I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but their last album was 'meh' since John Frusciane departed. Also, I don't feel comfortable calling them rock because they aren't really categorizable (new word).

Foos have been making good music consistently from the band's conception, heavy rhythm section and from drumless, acoustics, down to hard heavy rock.

90% of us know who they are, they are the rock band that gets called to award shows, they are the one with the frontman most music fans know by name.

I wanna say none of these bands, the Foo just quit making real rock after the colour and the shape. Black Keys are best imho.

Yes I have, as a lot of people like these guys. I am odd when it comes to music, I do not like modern sounding music. Props to Grohl and all the rest of the fighters. The gripe I have is they sound college rock to me, and that isn't the direction in music that myself as a fan are located. So when they changed directions around Learn to Fly, I moved on. I am happy with my current faves and still listen to the old Foo.
