Stellar Revival thinks of their music as "an homage to people who are different and really stand out ... someone who perseveres and goes against the grain." And in an age of endless revision and transient "new genres" -- dubstep, post-dubstep, chillwave, whatevercore, jazzstep, slip hop -- there's no better way to stand out and persevere than to to harness a timeless tradition like rock and roll and make it your own.
Rock and roll, defined by '50s and '60s legends like Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, The Rolling Stones, and The Who, is easily as rich and diverse as any contemporary movement, but maintains a strong tradition in songwriting, attitude, and approach. For Stellar Revival, the band that best encompasses the idea of rock and roll today is Foo Fighters, lead by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. Foo Fighters' Grammy-winning riffs have been carrying the torch for 18 years, but they can't do it on their own. Stellar Revival is up for the challenge.
Stellar Revival's first single, "The Crazy Ones," is about "people who don't take 'no' for an answer." Frontman Rino Cerbone says, "To me, those are the crazy ones. I think that's a force to be reckoned with and we need more of them." In a new press kit, the band discusses their approach to rock, the video for "Crazy Ones," a couple of other songs off their upcoming album, and most importantly, the tradition of rock and roll. Who do you think is carrying the torch today?

But the only two bands that I can honestly say are "rock" is Foo Fighters and Seether. Now humor me here, I have played in rock bands and metal bands for most of my teenage years, through my 20th year. I know my music. If there are any bands that should be holding this "torch" it would be:
Nickelback - They just released a FLAWLESS CD and are touring the world in support of it with some pretty heavy hitting songs with it.
Avenged Sevenfold - They lost their drummer 3 years ago, and are still touring like crazy! The CD Nightmare was a great tribute to Jimmy too.
Blink 182 - They are legends, standing in a sea of posers. The music they put out is amazing, it just keeps getting better.
Avenged Sevenfold is a crappy, commercial Metalcore band. They are neither good, nor Rock. They are definitely not fit to hold any torch, even the poorly made one that ends up burning your hand.
Nickelback is everything that is wrong with modern Rock music. You really don't know much about Rock if you think they should hold the torch. "I know my music." lol, no.
Now, in all honesty, Rock music is defined by a few simple things: Dirty, overdriven guitars, aggressive chord progressions, Guitar solos/riffs, and a mixture of aggressive and melodic vocals.
Pop Rock is a sub category of Rock. Same with Indie Rock, Pop Rock, Grunge Rock, ect.
That being said, you yourself said Nickelback is Pop ROCK. I would love to know where you get the pop from, but whatever. They are rock nonetheless. Rock with heavy riffs, tasteful drums, primarily inspirational lyrics, and a fanbase that could populate a decent sized continent. Whatever you have to say about them is OBVIOUSLY an opinion. Not factual.
Avenged Sevenfold. Aggressive male vocalist, connective lyrics, a drummer that will go down as one of the greatest, two of the greatest guitarist ever, and a fanbase that would gladly kick your ass for even the thought of saying they are crappy.
They must be doing something right. They sure as hell live a much more privileged life for doing what THEY love, Whether one minuscule mind likes them or not.
I will leave with this question: Can you do it? Can you play every part of their music? Can you sing FLAWLESSLY live without the use of auto-tune and a voice-over?
Sorry bud, A7X was never really played on the radio, or on MTV until City Of Evil. Even then, it was scarce.
Hate all you want, I'd take your idea of "Commercial Hacks" lifestyle over yours any day.
I will ask again though, can you play the music they write? Can you even play an instrument? Are you even a musician or just an opinionated kid?
As for me missing out, trust me i aint. Heard PLENTY of todays bands, sorry they dont hold up. But when i listen to Prince, or maybe a live Louis Prima album...i go crazy...so many dynamics, passion, songwriting. Its endless. And i discover something new and BEAUTIFULLY recorded every day. Back before albums were heavily mastered, compressed and clipped to oblivion.
