Since George Lucas sold the rights to "Star Wars" to Disney, we have learned that there will be three films, and that the first one will be directed by "Star Trek" and "Lost" mastermind JJ Abrams. Now, it has been revealed that there will be more to the new "Star Wars" universe than just a continuation of the series.
According to an announcement by Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger on the
official Star Wars website, LucasFilm "are in development of a few standalone films that are not part of the 'Star Wars' saga."

He added that "there are now creative entities working on developing scripts for what would be those standalone films." Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote "The Empire Strikes Back," "Return of the Jedi" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" will write one, as will "Sherlock Holmes" writer Simon Kinberg. Apparently, "each standalone film will focus on a specific character." Do you think that Disney is going too far with the "Star Wars" license?
I don't really care. Disney likes keeping franchises alive for the revenue stream.
