Mazel Tov to the Los Angeles Kings! They did a great job to win the Stanley Cup -- the championship trophy for the National Hockey League. The Kings won the Cup in spectacular fashion -- both on and off the ice. The city started watching the games. Normally, Los Angeles only pays attention to the USC Trojans (football), Lakers (NBA), and Dodgers (MLB). Thanks to the Kings win, we have some legitimate hockey fans in Tinseltown.LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The National Hockey League's (NHL) Los Angeles Kings went to bed late on Monday as the city's newest champions, the toast of Tinseltown and rulers over all they surveyed. But in

L.A. hockey fan are a lot better than basketball fans, they don't riot and destroy privet property.

If God wanted us to play hockey in LA, he would have given LA freezing temperatures during the winter so kids could train on real ice. :-)

Look, I live in So Cal. And I am a hockey fan, just not a Kings fan. My loyalty goes with our other local team who won the cup 5 years ago. But I digress....

I love living here, and it goes without saying that the entertainment options are limitless. Including sports. BUT, the one thing that I'll say, is that it's a very shallow place. There are some good, diehard fans, but most "fans" go away when the local teams don't play well. And the only reason that most anyone payed attention to the Kings, was because the Lakers (and Clippers, but no one really cares about them either) were knocked out of the playoffs. Until L.A. basketball was packed up for the season, nobody was talking about the Kings. Even the news coverage was virtually nonexistent. In fact, local newscasts repeatedly posted the logo for the Sacramento Kings (NBA team) by mistake, and longtime faces on the local news were repeatedly, and embarassingly getting the players names wrong. I know, sometimes European & Russian names can be hard to pronounce, and that would be forgivable if that were the case, but that wasn't it.... Instead, I'm talking about referring to the goaltender as "Johnathon 'Swift'". It's actually "Quick", for anyone who didn't know.

I think since it was the first time they won the big one, they will have many more fans, and can compete with the Lakers basketball team in popularity. When they changed the coach and hired Darryl Sutter it changed the whole team.He made a team that was terrible before he arrived half way through the season, into the best in the league very quickly.

LA has never really cared about the Kings. They care for their teams in this order:

    Lakers
    Dodgers
    Clippers
    Angels
    Kings

Yes, another big thumbs up for our development programs here....Hatcher is from the Detroit area...wish I still had all those scoresheets from years ago....I may have coached a team that played against him when he was younger (and his brother)...Modano, too....Pat LaFontaine came form this area also....Tim Thomas came out of our local program, as did Ken Morrow and Shawn Cronin, Rolston for the Bruins, too.....
