There's been no shortage of hit singles this summer, ranging from pop to indie to country, and there has been a surprising amount of newcomers topping the charts. Spotify looked at all the data and compiled a list of the most listened to songs this summer, so check out the full list here and see if it matches up with what you've been listening to. Which of the top five songs is your favorite?

GiuliettaTomolei 2012/09/04 16:43:30Fun. feat. Janelle Monae - 'We Are Young'+3I like the Gotye song too, though :) Not a big fan of Whistle or Call Me Maybe...they were both good at first, but I hear them everywhere, it seems, so I got sick of them.

Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotcha is the second song in mind. Drive By by Train is the third and last choice.
I don't know how deeply in my heart I can yell out just the degree at which I've been hating every single one of these.. "HITS" and plenty more terrible songs playing on the radio (besides that from Florence and the Machine; fantastic form and structure, but in reality I don't like their sound). Lord save me! It's always this "new music" that the radio stations have been presenting; new, not meaning good. Hell, I just can't understand what's wrong with the EARS of our listeners today (perhaps they're not listening?). First of all, the music sounds terrible; second, it's constructed terribly. You GOT to be kidding me! That "Toniiiiiiiight" song was, in the least, something interesting (yes, just because of that great drop in tempo), but besides it being horribly replayed, the repetitiveness in its structure is stupid! Away from that particular song, the group is taking a tip from the somewhat recent, so-called "hip-hop," bringing back its vocal-manipulator the sane of us had called out, while also taking a tip from the Lion King soundtrack that'd best stay in its film. Other groups have some odd liking of adding just.. ODD sounds like goofy whistles or something that, although again may be something new from what we have been hearing,...

Other groups have some odd liking of adding just.. ODD sounds like goofy whistles or something that, although again may be something new from what we have been hearing, it just WOULDN'T FIT their song's attitude or simply won't sound decent at all! Same with the vocals--the same STINKIN' story with the vocals. "Gotye" here's got an unappealing voice; at least how he sings, given the theme and mood of the song, just does NOT sound.. right! People are mixing different sounds, hoping they'll sound good, rather than KNOWING or feeling they sound good. And by some twisted thing of reality, this stuff is popular! What's wrong with these artists? Is it too easy for them? Instruments gone? Do they not have to conjure with their hearts from that which they believe can simply be made with a computer? The starting two Gorillaz albums are great counter-examples to that, though--computer-heavy portions, that is (very well-layered songs they have; great depth). But see, music shouldn't only be different, it should also be good! I respect the new and welcome it, but I will not support it if it's just straight-up awful! And call me jaded; I'm finding that the deeper I look into old music, the more new-old stuff I find, the more I love and am impressed; although, my stopping point is at the lounge and big-band, plus I basically skip the 80's. The older stuff is a Hell of a lot better than the newer--that's within matters of ingenuity and construct, not necessarily what I like (go on and bring up the discussion of drug use in the older music, but to cut you short, I refuse to believe the mind doesn't have the potential to reach what drugs move us toward). This generation may seem forgotten, but it's just lost. I only hope it'll be found sometime soon. Born in '92 suckas; tells you my perspective vs age.
Style, heart, soul, flow, rhyme, rhythm, passion. ~You'll know when you hear it, and I'll wait untill I hear it again.
Call Me Maybe is the only other song on the list I know, and it's just OK.
