South Koreans Protest Lady Gaga: Super or Silly?

Lady Gaga hasn't even started her Born This Way Ball Global Tour yet, and it's already controversial in certain places. A group of 300 Protestant church members in South Korea are planning to pray against the diva's Seoul concert on Sunday -- the first show of her worldwide tour. Their charge? Advocating homosexuality and porn. Not a first for Lady Gaga.

Kang Ju-Hyun, a prayer organizer, told French newswire service Agence France-Presse, "We will pray to God that the concert will not be realised so that homosexuality and pornography will not spread around the country." And church groups aren't the only ones worried about Gaga's message. According to The Raw Story, minors are banned from attending the concert, as ordered by the Korea Media Rating Board.

I have been to South Korea and they have better morals in their society than those to which we have descenced. The schools wear uniforms to ensure unity, decrease distraction, aid in discipline, and decrease bullying. Everything over there is not about feeding your lust, but about knowledge, community, and service.

In education South Korea is #1 in Math & Reading and #3 in Science. We are #25 Math, #14 Reading, & #17 Science. See what happens when you have a youth culture bombarded by sex and self-importance. Of course Sweden, Germany, France, Denmark and the UK are in worse shape.

I frankly don't care about Catholics, I don't like their religion or agree with it. That being said if someone insults them I expect them to be upset about it, and can understand the way they feel.

Lady Gaga is a horrible person anyways.

See, I raved you because your avatar made me laugh uncontrollably for some reason, but, just so there's no confusion here, the horrible person bit is an immensely dim-witted thing to say. She's founded a charity organization to help troubled teens, for frig's sake, and has donated millions upon millions to people and groups that need it. That people can honestly, truly say that she is a horrible person makes me both angry and saddened at how blind and misguided some people around here are.

    ^ THIS.

It enrages me to see all the sh!t talked about celebrities like her. It's expected... but come on. "A horrible person"??? WRONG.

All she's done is express her opinion through art. If someone's offended, turn the other cheek - no one's making you watch it. On top of honesty, she's contributed a LOT to fantastic organizations she supports and spoken up for homosexual/bisexual rights, as well as inspired and given strength to those cast out for "not being normal".

    Horrible?? HARDLY!!

"...but religious people also have the right to pray her plane crashes before getting there." That sounds like a very religious thing to do. That'd be just wonderful of them. I thought the point of prayer was to pray for good, not for someone's death.

    It's called hyperbole.

That being said there is a time and place for praying for someone's death.

I'm just wondering if they think God/Creator makes mistakes. The way a person is, concerning this, isn't a choice but the way God/Creator made them.

If it's a sin god didn't make us this way, we became this way after sinning in the garden. Just like we have to resist urges to be violent or cheat on our partners, homosexuality is just another sin in my eyes. Some people have cravings to have sex with animals, I don't understand it, but they have to fight that urge themselves. Homosexuality isn't the same thing as bestiality, but adultery, beastiality, and homosexuality are all sexual sins as I understand the bible to say. So by the bible that's why we believe homosexuality is wrong, other religions may have different views on it of course.

U choose to believe your way I'll believe mine. Growing up in Pentecostal religion I am well aware what is being taught. But after a while I got sick of listening to what others think the bible says and started listening to my heart. The passage your refering to people were raping and abusing. No where in the bible does it say homosexuality itself is wrong.

hmmmm. OK so since this was said in old testment when they were still making alters of sacrifice for sins before Christ, which by the way died for all sins so that we may live by grace. Don't you think that God realises that we are who we are because of the way we were created by him proving this by allowing his son to die for ALL sins. God also made it clear not to judge others. So why not let people be who they r and let God sort it out since only HE truly knows our souls.
  • Sterling me bein... 2012/04/25 00:28:28

I think the bible is clear that we need to let people make their own choices. I don't condemn homosexuals, I love homosexuals. I feel like as a christian I am called to be honest with people and tell them if there is something in their life that is interfering with or keeping them from a relationship with Christ and I expect them to do the same for me. The bible says we should be watchmen and that it is a sin to NOT warn people, not only that but "Iron sharpens Iron." This doesn't mean you go around rubbing peoples face in their sin, this just means when you're in a close group of people there is accountability to each other.

As for the Old Testament, true there were a lot of things that changed in the New Testament; Jesus was the fulfillment of the law and we are saved by grace, but Jesus dying for all sins doesn't mean we should continue to live in sin.

I could argue that the Bible was put together by the Catholic church to keep it's people in line. That parts of the Books of the bible were left out as well as some books in their entirety that were written at the same time. Note "Gnostic Gospels". Like I said it's up for interpritation. I rather live and let live not spending my time debating who is sinning and who isn't. Besides I'm nor anyone else decides ultimately who gets into heavan. It's God/Creator. Each individual has their own relationship with God. It isn't for me to decide whats right or wrong. I just wish others would do the same and let God do his job instead of his chidren trying to take it over for him.
Anyway, good debate. Thanks for that;-D

It's a good thing millennia-old fairy tales and superstitions are of little importance in this modern, intelligent, free-thinking world. ... Right? That should be right. Sadly, there are still huge pockets of ignorance that seem to think we need primitive stories to get through the day and to govern our lives.

It says in the Bible women should not hold any authority over man, and they should not teach. Do you believe this too? Should we go stone all the teachers and female politicians to death, as would be the righteous and true punishment for their ungodly acts!?
Or are you one of those morons who ignores half the bible because it's "out of date, meant for a different time", while still maintaining that everything else is still the word of God (as if the other half of the Bible isn't) and we should follow it? Please tell me you have enough of a working brain to realize the stupidity in that.

I was going to write a long comment about the historicity of the bible, the changes that occurred in the New Testament, and why things that are old aren't inherently wrong, but I decided it's not worth it. I'm not going to change your mind, you aren't going to change mine. Go in peace friend.

Right, with a madman on your border who would rather build an ICBM than feed his people? Recall, Kim Jong Un's father just killed eight civilians with an artillery bombardment right before his death. His provocation? The S. Korean Navy had maneuvers in their own waters the day before.

The South did not return fire, although they have the weaponry to obliterate the North. BTW, that war is not over ~ only in a cease-fire which the North has violated time and again.

Didn't track that very well did you.

    S. Koreans protest violence.

    N. Korean brainwashed Communist roll over the border to help them "protest".

Korean war resumes as the the S. Korean peaceniks figure out their N. Korean neighbors have been trained from birth to hate and destroy them.

But yes, I agree any Nation who spends 25% of its GDP on its Military while people are starving is pretty horrible.

They obviously have the right to protest, but it's not going to do anything. Hundreds, maybe even thousands are still going to show up for the concert. I'm neutral as to the banning of minors from the show. Whatever floats their boat.
