It’s been 38 seasons since comedian George Carlin hosted the first episode of “Saturday Night Live” in 1975. And it seems like everyone’s done an opening monologue ever since -- from the youngest host, seven-year-old Drew Barrymore, to the oldest, 88-year-old Betty White. Sports figures like Hulk Hogan and Michael Phelps have filled the role as have political figures from Rudi Giuliani to Al Gore.

This week, NBC announced some of the celebs who will join the “SNL” cast to fill the high-pressured spot. “Family Guy” creator and star Seth MacFarlane will lead the brigade on the season opener on September 15. Frank Ocean will serve as his musical guest. Next up will be Joseph Gordon-Levitt with Mumford & Sons providing the tunes. They’ll all be followed by Daniel Craig and Muse on October 6.

Long a place where stars of all shapes and sizes come to plug their latest venture, the possibilities for hosts to round out the season seem endless. Perhaps Elijah Wood will stop in for a “Hobbit”/“Wilfred” double-header publicity junket? Maybe Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will continue their on-going battle to host the show the most. With the political race in full swing, maybe Paul Ryan or Joe Biden will take a turn. And odds are that before the warm weather fully fades Gabby Douglas or Ryan Lochte could make an appearance. What do you think: Who should host “SNL” this season?

They should bring back Steve, but not Alec, Alec hosted last season so they should wait a year or two, Steve hasn't hosted for a few years now and I'd like to see him host this year.

I don't think he's do it, but they should ask Robert Pattinson. He'd be great!

Screw Elijah Wood, put Jason Gann in there. He could also be the musical guest with his band SofaMecca.

Joe may as well appear on SNL and try to get laughs on purpose. The clown usually makes everyone laugh every time he opens his mouth. The program he really needs to appear on is "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" just so it could be proven once & for all that the answer is indeed, NO, he is not!

no one - SNL has sucked for the past 30 years , Its more of a political add than a comedy show - does the DNC pay to keep it on the air ??? LOL

not the point - I own a TV production company and everyone who works for me is a good little liberal in every conversation but be damned if they are anything but craven rutting capitalists on payday and at tax time ! LOL...in 06 we cut a lot of TV adds for the DNC and my own GF (editor) agreed with everything they had to say ...so I asked her if she wanted me to do as she said and start paying her the same as the cameraman and the sound man , funny how her stand on equal wages suddenly shifted !

They should have odumbo, polousy, and reid because with a little bit of luck all three will be out of work...at least they should be if the country is to survive becoming communist, Muslim, and racist.
