Sikh Temple Massacre Casts Light on White-Power Rock: Censor Hate Music?

The murderer who killed six members of the Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin founded a white-power rock group in 2005. This connection exposed a link between hate groups and their music, which includes lyrics of hateful acts toward minorities, Jews and non-whites.

Marilyn Mayo monitors hate groups for the Anti-Defamation League. Mayo told the AFP, "Hate music helps bring haters together into a shared community." Hate groups and their members meet through hate music and hate-music festivals.

“Racist music is what keeps the movement young” and sets it apart from the image of white-hooded Ku Klux Klan members “sitting on the front porch with a shotgun,” said one-time skinhead Frank Meeink on MSNBC television. Do you think hate music should be censored? Will censoring this type of music prevent tragedies like the Wisconsin massacre from happening?

As much as I despise the speech, it's free speech. The same tests apply as for any speech.

Great Service? My school is nothing but preparing for tests. Our roads are deplorable, and the federal services are understaffed and it takes a long time to be served at any federal bureau. We bail out big Corporations, is that a service to the people? Why not just pardon all loans, especially student loans? The federal government's duty is only to protect it's citizens, not to provide them services. That's the state's duty. I never get a cent of welfare because I come from one of those rich families that people just seem to despise. Yes my dad and stepmother are in the top 8% of wealth, does that mean they should pay more taxes?

Yes they should, I believe in equality of opportunity not right of birth. Everyone deserves a chance at wealth not just the blue bloods who were born rich. Perhaps we should pardon all loans for those in time of economic crisis that is a pretty good idea I will admit. You know not all governments are like the US government what about Canada their on top of the world when it comes to economics, civil rights(the exception being gun rights), and education only really dwarfed by Finland in the western hemisphere.

My dad made his way to where he is. He came from a poor family and made his wealth. So did my step mother, well she came from the middle class but still. When I was real young we were still struggling financially.

Somewhere along the way your family got help from someone. Someone had to influence your parents somewhere and picked them up when they failed. Income inequality is the greatest problem of our time and is the root of all other problems and needs to be addressed. It is the job of any good government to make sure there is a way for the poor to succeed. Not everyone who was born poor was born with the same skills or luck you or your parents had.

I'm not entirely sure, but as a European I'm pretty definite that that only applies to people that incite violence. You're allowed to express anything you want in Europe, unless it is a call to arms.

It really depends on the country your talking about Germany for example is the most extreme case which I wouldn't want applied to our country. In England it is my understanding that their breech of peace laws are a good moderate. You aren't allowed to put any hateful decorations on public property and you could be sued for things like racial harassment.

the same standard they have in England because that system is the closest to our own out of all the European countries so it should be the easiest to implement.

What if we don't want English standards? Didn't we have a revolution because we didn't agree with English standards? Where have you been man? Easiest to implement sound like taking the easiest way out. americans are not like that.

Well no progress has ever been made in the United States without the use of force by our government. We would still have slavery if it weren't for emancipation and African Americans wouldn't be able to vote if it weren't for the civil rights act. Both of those were very unpopular in their time just like what I suggest is unpopular. As for what I meant when I said "Easiest" I meant that it would be the most palatable version of such laws that Americans could tolerate.

Reading your words made me go look and see how old you are. Suspicions of youth have been confirmed. It was the people themselves who made the government stop slavery and give blacks the right to vote. The people, mostly white, who died in the fight to stop slavery. It was the people, not the government, Gregory.

The people are the government, you can't divorce the two unless the 1% corrupt the system but if they were taxed appropriately so they didn't have such power over our government everything would be ok.

The theory is that the people are the government but it is more that money is the government until the people rise up and take back their power as happened in the civil war. That was the people speaking out against slavery among a lot of other things. More taxing is not the answer. Stop the foolish and reckless spending on things that do not strengthen this country. Eliminate EPA, IRS, and the multitude of duplicative agencies. Get serious about controlling spending. Cut 10% out of everyone's budget and and congressional pay. When intelligent spending has been instituted, relook at the tax structure. Just bleeding taxpayer's dollars and then expecting more tax dollars from working America is ridiculous. Where are you going to go when the wealthy are out of money and the spending has not been curbed? The middle class will be next until we have the working poor, the poor who take off the government and the elites who aren't affected by any of this. Is this what you want for the future?

We need those programs cutting them is like cutting off your own nose to spite your face. You don't seem to get that the poor don't stay poor when you help the poor off their feet. If you raise taxes what happens is those people on welfare get what they need to pull themselves up out of poverty. However if what you said were true then it is evident that there are too many people in this country to sustain. What we do then if increasing taxes doesn't work is the government starts paying people to get an abortion or to get sterilized. However, I doubt we reached that point yet while we are close so I would first try a public work program and use the Keynesian principles to improve this country.
  • Ozzyboy gregory... 2012/08/12 01:36:04

The constitution says we can be taxed for the "general well being"
of society. We have progressed to generational welfare. We absolutely have too many people to sustain so why are there ads advertising for more being paid for by the working people to get more
on the teat of the public. You can not live beyond your budget by spending more. That principle is being used to reduce America to a third world country and thankfully, older and wiser people than you recognize what is happening and are taking a stand against such enslavement. At 19 you don't care that at 75 you will be denied health
care and I'm pretty sure it is ok with you to encourage old people to "shut up and die already." You must be a big fan of the movie Soylent Green.

I say do what's necessary for sustaining the most amount of people without sacrificing our government programs that make us civilized in the first place. I'd rather reduce our population to a more reasonable size instead of being reduced to anarchy which is what happens if you cut away the security net that keeps us all afloat. I am getting my degree in human development to help people but I realize that if you are correct and I doubt you are that in that case we need to reduce the population to a more reasonable size instead of prolonging and allowing millions to suffer inhumanely. I won't say your right unless the economy suffers a total collapse then we need to create incentives for sterilization, abortion, and ban invetro(SP?) fertilization. We could also use public work programs and use tax dollars to put the vast majority of people back to work.

First, I 'm pretty particular what I want to a call "music". Before I would get too excited about lyrics that call out anti-whites, I would ban rap, which is a vile excuse for entertainment with notoriously hate filled babble.

Why not have music that encourages love and respect? Why does hate have to be cool? It's not. It doesn't make you any tougher stronger or a badass. It makes you a jerk. I mean say what you want but it doesn't always need to be so negative. But hey, it's coming out of their mouths not mine.

hate has to be cool because it is a true feeling and human emotion. music is to express ones feelings and emotions. so if you feel hate you will sing it. and doing so is part of free speech.

THIS has come up many times concerning Rap Music and I'll say the same thing NOW that I said then..

MUSIC.. Even HATE music.. Never killed anyone..

Remove the music and you STILL have the psychotic mind that created it to DEAL with..

Not ALL of them become killers but it DOES provide a "Flag" to lead the way to those that do..
