Sick of movie remakes and Sequels/Prequels?

Of late, the vast majority of the hightest grossing films have been remakes (Wolf Man, Clash Of The Titans) reboots (Batman, Spider-man, The Incrtedible Hulk) sequels (Harry Potter, Mission Impossible) prequels (Star Wars, Red Dragon) spin-off's (Scorpion King, X-men Origins : Wolverine) and TV adaptations (Horrid Henry, Sex And The City)

Is it something we should celebrate because we get to have beloved archetypes like 'Sherlock Holmes' and 'Batman' done in new and interesting ways?
Not to mention how if, say, Fox makes 4 X-men movies, and that enables them to finance/distribute gems like Crazy Heart, Black Swan and The Wrestler, surely anything that get's them their money is a good thing?

So tell me what you think, are they welcome as long as they don't phase out and help finance original features?
Or are we sick and tired and want much more original content?

I love movies, and I have been known to enjoy a sequel or a prequel or two. It depends on the movie.

I was a bit in 2 parts over this, I LOVE some remakes, like Italian job, although the ones i like are either exactly the same as the originals OR totally different, I'm getting sick of the amounts out now though.

I have enjoyed some excellent older movie remakes like "13 Ghosts" or "House On Haunted Hill" but not so much the sequels.

You want original content? Find someone willing to give me Spielberg's budget, and I'll give you a better movie than Spielberg ever made.

Sadly, that hasn't happened yet, and it's extremely unlikely to ever happen. I've been waiting for three decades, watching as one of my ideas after another gets taken and made into a movie, sometimes well and sometimes horribly.

    They steal from old movies.
    They steal from foreign movies.
    They steal from TV shows.

And as long as the public is paying, they will continue to do so.

Harry potter isn't really a remake or sequel. It's a book brought to film. And after this one, there won't be any others. The books were well written and the films were generally well-made. Other things, like sequels to Batman, Superman, etc, I don't bother with. It seems any film with a modicum of success is made a sequel, often without enough thought put into it to make a good film. What I really despise is when they take a mediocre American telly series from the 70s and turn it into an even less than mediocre film.

Just to clear things up,with Harry Potter I just meant the seemingly endless sequels that were pretty much garuntee'd to make money at the box office

Some movies should make remakes..others shouldn't. I mean even sequels for movies like Saw are ridiculous.

The remake that I was looking for didn't happen. Hellraiser if done right would have been killer.

    remake hellraiser killer New Hellrasier

But it most likely lost the mystery for gore porn. That would have made me sad.

usually the sequels suck really bad or if the first part sucked the sequels will be even worse. and remakes.. i recently watched the remake of Funny Games (Michael Haneke) which was a shot-for-shot remake and i loved it (maybe because it was exactly the same but with different actors and different language). I saw others and i got bored immediately.
i only love The Fast & The Furious series, sequels, prequels...

Admittedly, it gets tiring every once in a while, especially if the movie is poorly done.

But all in all, even remakes can blow my mind. I mean, look at Lord of the Rings. It's been done, oh, how many times? Yet Jackson's managed to hold me enrapt all over again, and not just because I love the story. Yeah, there were some things wrong with it, but all in all, it was phenomenal.

Heck, I honestly didn't mind X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But then, I'm not a die-hard Marvel fan that gets anal-retentive if they change things around. And yes - I can understand why die-hard fans would be upset. I do. I'd be just as pissed, for example, if they put Tamora Pierce's Lioness Quartet to movie, and ended up changing her history. PISSED. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't enjoy the movie for what it might bring.

Yet again, I point to Lord of the Rings - they got a CRAPTON wrong, yet still managed to stay true to the 'message', so to speak. Was I pissed that Glorfindel was omitted, and his lines given to Arwen? Yup. Steaming. Was I mad that they left out Tom Bombadil? You betcha. BUT I still enjoyed the movie.

Same with Eragon - and that one was a humongous deviation from the book. Hair colors were changed, timelines were changed, the entire effing ENDING was changed, ...

    But I digress.

Not really all that sick of it. I just get irritated when it's obvious they've run out of plot and have pulls a Space Balls II: The Search for More Money.

I dont mind remakes, sequels at all. They're sometimes better than they were the first time around...although i cant say that about all of them. The Scream & Jason movies just to name a couple....they should have stopped after the first ones

The last movie brought things back a bit, I think. They really did attempt to stick as close to the book as possible for part 1. Yeah, there were a few deviations, but for the most part, I applaud their effort. Especially if you check out the cut scenes.

Yeah, DH Part 1 was a damn decent film. I'm glad they decided to do that in 2 parts; it should be the practice for most other film adaptations.
    Better idea than 3D anyway.

I've decided to only see animated features in 3D. Live actions ones give me a headache and nearly make me sick.
I really wish that Rango could have been made in 3D - the detail would have looked amazing.

Try www.thinkgeek.com's 2D glasses. Seriously. They turn 3D movies into 2D, so you can watch them alongside your friends who want to see the 3D movies.

Nowadays it seems Hollywood prefers to go with the sure thing instead of taking chances and maybe find something wonderful.
It turns out that playing safe is most of the times BORING!
If I want to watch an old film, I just go and buy the dvd or rent it. I don't need a (99% of the times) bad remake.
