With a highly anticipated album already on the way, 10-year-old Willow Smith might be putting her music career on hold to help her father out in a remake of the musical classic "Annie."

According to Variety, Will Smith is planning to produce the movie through his own management company, Overbrook Entertainment, and rumor has it rapper Jay-Z will be involved in putting together the music.

Willow is Smith's prime candidate for the lead role, Variety reports.

Reps involved in the project are keeping it tightly under wraps until further notice. They refused to hint at whether it would be modernized, or if they would even keep the original music. We think they should look at "Karate Kid," Willow's brother's attempt at a remake, and go from there...

It wouldn't be fair for Will Smith to cast his daughter as the lead role simply because she is his daughter. Annie is a classical movie with classical music and a classical plot. Please, oh please, don't make it filled with the horrid sounds of rap and hip-hop, especially coming from the voice of an untalented ten year old. Also, I always thought Annie would have fair skin and hair, and a beautiful singing voice. To me, Willow Smith is just not Annie and will never be Annie.

skin hair beautiful singing voice willow smith annie annie Annie

    Now, that's Annie.

It changes the whole idea behind the movie. The country got away from the idea white people can be broke. Changing this show proves it.

I thought it would be a little weird at first but it's worth a try. Karate kid was a good movie to me.

NO! I'm really less against Willow Smith playing Annie, and more against a remake of Annie being made at all!
Does anyone know of a good remake?

I really don't like remakes of the classics. Annie was a classic movie and no matter who they got to play the part, it would not live up to the classic. And too, this just may be my love of classic movies speaking. They may do a bang up job, but it wouldn't be the same.

Not unless she can turn into a blank-eyed white kid with a red afro. Many, many years ago I saw a Broadway play called "The Wiz" ("Ease on down that road...") with Michael Jackson and Diana Ross, a black adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz." Because it was so far from the original "Wizard.." I never really got caught up in it. Leave Annie Annie.

If that is what she wants and the parents have talked to her about all the pros and cons of acting, her brother is an actor and a good one. I'd like to see a GOOD remake of Annie

I grew up with Annie and I love that movie

Why is it that all Hollywood seems to be able to do now is take something that was successful and remake over.

Shows lack of imagination, talent and I like Will Smith btw. Try something else more original!

Are they going to bleach her skin? I'm all for equal rights, but there is a limit. This would be just as offensive as putting Johnny Depp in the role as Martin Luther King, and Johnny Depp is my favorite actor. Get REAL people. role martin luther king johnny depp actor real people

Annie was a character, Martin Luther King, Jr. was a real person who was alive. Changing the features of a character isn't the same as an unrealistic portrayal of a person.

There are too many untold stories that need, no, beg to be produced. Annie has been done to perfection already. It's a classic...let it stand for at least another generation. Maybe Will can produce it for his "granddaughter". If he wants a musical vehicle for Willow, produce something off Broadway and let her grow her talents there. Annie was/is great as it stands. I'm tired of retreads and remakes. It's the same thing we do when we remake and retread British TV and British movies. American creativity is a GREAT thing. Encourage creativity by supporting new ideas and stories. There are so many untold stories, Will. And for someone who has starred in so many original movies, I can't believe another retread is a good thing for your daughter or for movie audiences. Just sayin...

I'm sick of hearing the word remake. Why do we pay Hollywood
    to recreate movies?
They can make anyone sound perfect with auto-tune technology.

willow is great, she needs a vehicle of her own, not the usual bad Afrian American remakes they are so fond of. This is a beautiful and talented little girl, I doubt whether her smart and savvy parents would even allow her to do this, they never did it either and her brother never did it, thats for people who hav eno talent, not Willow Smith who is a natural born talent. BTW,
isn't Little orphan annie red headed white girl? The remake of the Bishops wife and the nutty Professor and the wiz were all lost in the translation, they are not anything like the originals and not half as good. There are great black writers out there, why don't think think up something new for Willow, she seems like a real original.

Annie is a white red headed girl that has been in the funny papers for years and years, even a black person can't really picture it, can't they make a movie on the same kind of theme but made for a little black girl, it doesnt' make sense, Orphan Annie is too well known and has been around for years in the funny papers she is what she is, Willow deserves better than this. How is this racist? do you ever think beyond race? move on arty and face facts, a white kid is not going to be cast as a black icon in a remake. Thats like putting a white boy in the remake of the buckwheat character in the little rascals, it just doesnt' work because buckwheat is too well known, as is Little Orphan Annie. thats all.
