Should Will Smith Play President Obama?

Will Smith was named the No. 1 celebrity on the A-list, according to the Ulmer Scale, in 2009, making him the most bankable actor in Hollywood at the time. So, what better man to play the commander-in-chief? Smith recently revealed that he thinks he would be the perfect person to play President Obama when someone makes a movie about him. Though, whoever produces it will have to be ready to shell out some big bucks.

Smith told the BBC, "It's about the ears, that's the thing. People see the ears and Barack and I both have the ears, so I'm the most natural choice. I told [Obama] jokingly, 'It's definitely something I would consider, you just have to write the ending.' So he's working on the ending right now." It does seem like a natural fit -- a big actor for a big role -- but would Will Smith be the best man for the job?

Why are people bringing politics into this? Shouldn't we be looking at likeness and acting ability?

Ha! Julianne Moore is an activist for same-sex marriage, is pro-choice, and has donated money to democratic candidates and yet, she was able to play the pro-life, anti gay-marriage, ex republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin (I think) very well.

I never knew politics was such an essential part of acting.

Well, anyway. Doesn't matter much to me who plays Obama. I don't think I plan on seeing it anyhow.

Will Smith is a great actor, a professional. Obama is "amateur hour at the White House"

Why does Smith think they would make a movie about Obama anyway? Did they make one about Jimmy Carter?

I really like Will Smith and I think he would do a great job. He's definitely got the ears going for him; just adding some thicker, darker eyebrows and make up would really make a difference. I'd like to see the movie. :)

Because Will Smith isn't really that good an actor.
He could never pull off intellectual sense that Obama sometimes exudes.

When you look at Will Smith you have a very hard time seeing some one that came from very little and became Pres. of the Harvard Law Review and then, eventually, POTUS.

My only concern is Smith's eyes and jaw. They're very different in this comparison picture. The wrinkles can be added with make-up, but other than that, he's pretty spot on.

Now if he can actually play the role of Obama - voice and all - I'll be impressed.

Just do a Google search on "Obama Down Low" and you'll see plenty of evidence to the contrary.

And I'm not sure what world you live in, but gay definitely IS an insult...
