Should Weird Al Headline the Next Super Bowl Halftime Show?

"Weird Al" Yankovic or bust! A new Change.org petition wants the king of song parody to headline the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show. And so far, the petition has over 70,000 backers (and counting.)

Ed Ball, who started the petition, had the idea of Weird Al performing after he heard someone say that Justin Bieber would be a good choice for the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show.

"I thought, 'Man, this is so crappy,' Ball told The Hollywood Reporter. "In all honesty, would you rather have Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus perform the Super Bowl or something different?"

Ball apparently envisions a halftime performance where the actual artists of Yankovic's parodies join him onstage. Sounds pretty cool, if you think about it. Do you agree? Would Weird Al be a good performer for the next Super Bowl Halftime show? Or would you prefer an actual musical artist performing onstage?

I don't see why not. It'd be refreshing for one, he'd be making people laugh for two, and he's a hell of alot better than a washed up punk who can't avoid doing illegal stuff (Bieber) or some mediocre singer who can't make music without slutting herself up (Cyrus).

It's just great to see Al anywhere isn't it, cause even if he's not a "real" artist, he's still Wierd Al!

Weird Al is one of the most underrated musicians of all time, simply because he chooses to make people laugh. He plays a ton of instruments with extreme skill, and he always keeps his goofy character. I hope he stages a mock wardrobe malfunction, too :D

Weird Al is funny as hell in short doses. But his comedy is like a rich dessert: a great way to end a fine meal but you wouldn't want to eat just that and nothing else.

Weird Al IS an "actual musical artist". And yes, that would be the best halftime show in the last 20 years not to include a nip slip. Well, but come to think of it, Weird Al could (and should) probably work in a wardrobe malfunction as well.

Weird Al has had a much longer career than many of the "real artists" he parodies.
He also does have original content too.

Al would be great and refreshing. He would carry the tradition of thye zanyness and thrill of the even, especially with his dead on parodies. If anyone thinks Al Yankovic is not an artist, then why did he arrange his parodies of famous entertainer's hits from the likes of MIchael Jackson and Madonna? Note that he was his high school's valedictorian, antiona champion accordian player and now a famed architect. His genius has made him famous with millions of fans and he is, as they say, "clean as preacher's sheets".

"How about a real artist"? Are you trying to be provocative or do you really think he has no artistic merit and if so, why?
If the Superbowl doesn't mind a comedic bent, yes, he would be excellent. He is an experienced showman, has a huge repertoire of music to play from, he is liked and known and reliable.

One that doesn't dress like it's a strip show and/or doesn't give America the finger as well.
