Should Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers have to tuck his hair inside his helmet?

Sports 2008/03/27 21:15:12
Yes, he should have to tuck his hair in.
No, he should be able to express himself however he chooses, even if his hair gets pulled.

The National Football League is reviewing a new rule which would require players like Troy Polamalu to cover his hair. The NFL became concerned when the Steeler's Safety was pulled down by his hair by Kansas City’s Larry Johnson.
The rule was purposed by Kansas City who require their players to hide their hair in their helmets. The committee has yet to rule on the matter.

I'd say it was up to him. Pulling hair should draw a personal foul like a face mask penalty, 5 yard for unintentional and 15 for intentional. IMO

He's a grown man and knows the risk, why all of a sudden is there a hair controversy?

Its his choice. he should have to live with it. If it gets pulled enough maybe he will start tucking it in himself. but it does look cool when its out. and when randy rocks out the big fro sticking out the back.

It is his hair if it gets pulled he is the one who has to deal with that. He should not be forced to hide or cut it. It wouldn't be Troy with out seeing his hair hanging out.

I think he don't want to,but if he wants to continue to play in the NFL he has to abide by the rules that is being set.The same way with the NBA,commissioner stern is not going to let the players come in looking any kind of way and showing disrespect. The tattoos are enough, WHAT'S NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

He's at a disadvantage when tacklers can grab his hair. If he's that stupid, let him wear it if the coach doesn't mind. The team should have the final say on how he grooms himself.

If you don't want to get pulled down by your hair then tuck it up,better yet you would look better with the long hair cut off, just my opinion.

what if when troy goes to tackle someone he puts his head down low and breaks his neck. there is always a risk, god forbid. but the tackling scenerio is more likely than his hair.

it just seems that with all the risks they are taking by being on the field, it is silly to add another one.

yeah but this risk is from a personal choice. he wants his hair long so its he is putting himself in that position.

It looks silly even without a helmet.

He is part of a professional team, and they need to project a positive image.... they should have a "uniform" look to them on and off the field. He looks like a gang thug, clean him up.

Just because KC can't control their players, maybe they should just fine their players than taking away the freedom of other team's players.

You cant fine a player for that. I do think its a weak move, to pull someones hair, but it at times has happened on accident. when LJ did it it was bad but he wasnt the first and wont be the last. plus football is such a fast paced game at times players just grab anything they can

I dont think it should be a penalty. If his hair wasnt there they would be pulling on his jersey. Plus his hair is a personal decision unlike a face mask that everyone has. It gives his team an unfair advantage when it comes to possible penalty yards. He could get his hair pulled and get penalty yards but there might not be anyone with long hair on the other team therefore they dont get the advantages of that rule which is based on a personal choice.

Pulling on the jersey, horse-collar tackle, draws the same -15 yards.

horse collar is serious and that does draw a penalty. but the jersey doesnt. especially in this case. LJ was tackling Troy because he intercepted it. you can grab a hold of a jersey to take them down, most players do. yeah grabbing the jersey and holding is a penalty but that happens every play. there is at least one person holding every play. just depends if the ref calls it or not or even sees it.

It should be up to him if he wants to keep it out. but no penalty should be called if it happens. plus its football. everyone has a safety risk

Hey, I'm no expert... far from it. Just seemed logical to me. I just figured that pulling on hair is about the same location as a horse collar and/or face mask.

yeah. and im really not defending anyone that does it because they dont like someone or to hurt them. i think its messed up. im from KC and i like troy. i thought it was messed up when LJ did it because it looked like he meant to because he was frustrated. thats not right. but i can see it happening on accident and it shows an unfair advantage.

It should be left up to the individual players. If someone pulls your hair and it hurts, cut it off. If it doesn't bother you then let it all hang out!
