Hollywood has been getting pretty lazy, but Lionsgate might be hitting a new all-time low by trying to remake a Patrick Swayze movie from the '80s.
Anyone up for another round of "Dirty Dancing"? Anyone?
A full remake of the 1987 film about a dance instructor, played by Swayze, and a 17-year-old New York girl who falls in love with him, played by Jennifer Grey, was just announced by the studio, though very few details have been revealed so far.
The only thing we do know about it is Kenny Ortega, a famed choreographer who worked on the original film --- as well as "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," the "High School Musical" movies, and Michael Jackson's "This Is It" tour -- will be involved in the remake.
Since the original movie took place in 1963, more than twenty years before it was actually made, it leaves Lionsgate with a few different options for how they want to proceed.
They could keep it in the '60s and simply retell the story (safe but kind of pointless), they could bump the setting up to the '80s and stay true to the original angle (we like that idea), or they could bring it right up to the present and try for a contemporary dance drama (we have enough of those).
Though it seems like a pretty random movie to expand on, this actually isn't the first time someone has tried to continue its success. Just one year after the original, CBS aired 11 episodes of a "Dirty Dancing" television series with a different cast.
It was swiftly pulled because of poor ratings.
Grey, the star of the original movie, told The Wallstreet Journal, "I’m so excited about this news and I think there’s nobody better to do this than my beloved Kenny Ortega who is as responsible as anyone for the success of the first one. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do with it."

Nothing like the Origional
What they cut out of the first to keep its PG-13 rating.
Hey Hollywood . . . ENOUGH WITH THE REMAKES!
