Should the Elderly Play Video Games?

When you think of a hardcore gamer, you're probably not picturing a 74-year-old man. But this 74-year-old man is thanking video games for keeping him alive. Actually, he's thanking "Resident Evil 4," specifically -- probably not the game you'd expect. According to Kotaku, Shiro Suzuki started gaming 15 years ago, when he got hooked on games like "Gradius," "Castlevania," and the "Resident Evil" series.

Suzuki recently attended a "Resident Evil" 15th anniversary event in Tokyo where he told the audience, "I owe making it to 74 years old to Resident Evil. I want other elderly people will play video games. It betters you as a human being." Words from the wise: He says he achieved his "Resident Evil 4" Mercenaries Mode high score (178,270 points) by getting enemies to group together, then lighting them on fire.

Ok they should be able to play video games play whatever they want to play; as long as they know how to play, what's the friggin' problem? Also age is just a number; it's just a frikin' number! Just because a person get older does not mean that they're dead or dying geez!!!
    That is so offensive'

I don't think sex has anything to do with it. Seniors have a lot of free time on their hands and gaming can fill the gap. In fact, they are the only ones who should be playing video games since most people have to work, go to school, do homework, help the kids with homework, chores around the house, iron, cook, clean, etc., etc. etc. Too many things get left for tomorrow when too much time is spent playing video games. I know it's lots of fun because I have played video games many times myself, but , just like the computer, video games will take as much of your time as you are willing to give to them.

I love: "It betters you as a human being" + 'He says he achieved his "Resident Evil 4" Mercenaries Mode high score (178,270 points) by getting enemies to group together, then lighting them on fire.'

Grouping my enemies together, then setting them afire would certainly better me as a human being too :D

When I am 74, I plan to be having as much fun as this chap. Anything that is harmless fun and gives the brain needed exercise is worth doing.

I would think that the Wii is a good game system to play, especially for the elderly, because it gets them to move. As they move this is exercise and just enough that they will not tire themselves out too much nor will they stress their muscles too far as to injure themselves.
