Jay-Z, Kanye West, Chris Brown and Beyonce all won big last night at the BET awards. The awards show featured a tribute to Whitney Houston and many other performances from award winners. Unfortunately, many of the performances were heavily censored resulting in long moments of awkward silence for TV viewers. Should artists opt for more "TV-friendly" performances at televised award shows? Or should they perform their songs exactly how they were written?

Entire segments of performances, from Nicki Minaj to Rick Ross, were muted out due to foul language and obscenities, though several vulgarities were heard on air.

Balladeer-PWCM-POTL 2012/07/02 19:24:51Yes+21BUT they won't because they lack TALENT and therefor NEED a gimmick like shock. and thank you for your posting here...WHY because when i tell the truth about Rap and filth i am called a racist and the defenders say 'the filth is a rarity'

That's all any televised award show is about, anyway. It's not like they actually recognize good artists.. Just the mainstream money-makers.
It does not happen, so who cares. Nobody who was not Black was watching anyway.
Do you know i have gone out of my way however to remove BET from my television DVR lineup, along with home shopping club, QVC and all those annoying mexican and Koriean channels nobody ever watches but Mexicans and Koreans?

So tell us again why having white people not watch BET and give a crap about it makes us Racist?
Korean porn gets a pass!
But then, they can't perform without vulgarity. Such nuance is beyond them, despite whatever real talent they may or may not possess.
And besides, without the nasty lyrics and irresponsible actions fostering and propagating the ghetto mentality that the nasty lyrics are written about, where would the performers be?
As an artist, if you don't love your fans enough to cater to all of them, then so be it. Keep on keepin' on because the mass public will either love you or hate you no matter what you do or don't do.
