Should Recording Artists Skip Explicit Performances at Award Shows?

Or maybe, here's an idea: if the network doesn't want that kind of language on their air... don't air performances with that kind of language. Whoa, bet they never thought of that one.

That's all any televised award show is about, anyway. It's not like they actually recognize good artists.. Just the mainstream money-makers.

I love classic music of all shapes, sizes and amperage! However, I saw Neil Young a few years ago and he ruined the show. Willie Nelson opened for him and sounded great, as usual. I greatly respect the work Neil Young has done. Writing and great performances of PAST. I guess because his son is now singing is why he did what he did... No recognizable song and sounded like poo. Willie's bus was gone ASAP. Point being is that he needs to keep off stage and retire from credible work from past. Award ceremonies are different now...musically. 9 outta 10 'artist' now only sound half decent when audio enhancement etc is involved. Basically...things are going further down the crap hole with our joke entertainment industry. Most popular rap now is mostly rhymes of foul words/topic. English language altered by Ebonics. First off, what white person do you know that would go out of his way to watch BET?
It does not happen, so who cares. Nobody who was not Black was watching anyway.
Do you know i have gone out of my way however to remove BET from my television DVR lineup, along with home shopping club, QVC and all those annoying mexican and Koriean channels nobody ever watches but Mexicans and Koreans?

It's just that few other races have been able to capture the talent of rapping (I am not talking about ghetto rap, there is other rap out there, but few other races can master the talent; again, not just gangsta rap). In addition, who do you think are buying the rap music, and R &B music? Yes, you guessed it, young white teens, as well as black teens, and other teens. Vulgarity is not art. Somewhere along the line artists got the idea that "shocking" people made something more artistic. It's been overdone. Move on. Do something original.

I say no, if that's truly what they want to do. Other than that I say yes, because it is a big disservice to the fans at home who have to deal with all the censoring. Either that, or just air it on a paid channel instead, like HBO.
As an artist, if you don't love your fans enough to cater to all of them, then so be it. Keep on keepin' on because the mass public will either love you or hate you no matter what you do or don't do.

If we can't hear it and they're just going to get fined, why bother? I understand that at home viewers aren't the only ones who are watching the performance but a good song doesn't need to rely on swear words to hold the song together.

Only problem I see is that is all most of these low rent 'artists' have going for them... With all of the digital compression and auto-tuning going on someone with a voice like mine could 'sing' and still make a million.
