Boston Celtics guard and All-Star player Rajon Rondo was supposed to take that next step in his basketball career. His general manager Danny Ainge and head coach Doc Rivers both went out of their way to call these Celtics Rondo's team. Unfortunately, Rondo showed anything but leadership this past Sunday in a loss to the lowly Detroit Pistons.
Rondo let his temper get the best of him and threw a basketball at an NBA referee on court. The NBA decided to punish Rondo and has handed him a two-game suspension. Coach Rivers expressed disappointment when talking to the media about his young star, who is also one of the top point guards in the league.
After looking like they were getting back into the swing of things, the Celtics have now lost five of six games. The Celtics got old and got old fast with the Big Three of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce -- each most likely being a future Basketball Hall of Famer. Rondo may have the ability to lead his team to the playoffs and carry them farther than people think, but at the end of the day, players must respect their officials -- and keep their emotions in check.

Reminds me of when Ainge threw a ball at Sam Cassell and hit him square in the face.
But I disagree with the notion that officials need to be respected. A lot of officials do deserve respect. They do a good job, a tough job and only occasionally make mistakes but they show a level of respect to the players.
There are officials though that are pieces of trash - they attempt to make the game about them, blatantly make bad calls or consistently make bad calls, and there are officials who attempt to provoke conflict with players.
So blanket respect for officials? I think not.
Go Bulls and Go Lakers. That's right. One in each Conference.
