Should Ozzie Guillen Shut His Mouth?

Nobody can doubt Ozzie Guillen's managerial skills in Major League Baseball. As the former manager of the Chicago White Sox, Guillen led the franchise to multiple playoff appearances and its first World Series Championship in nearly a century. Yet there's one big reason Guillen is no longer White Sox manager.

Well, besides the team under-performing at the end? His big mouth. Guillen has always been a lightning rod for controversy, often openly using cuss words during interviews with the media, as well as publicly criticizing his own players. There was even an incident a few years ago when he called a Chicago sports reporter a homosexual slur (he later apologized).

Now Guillen is making headlines again for the wrong reasons -- this time, as manager for the Florida Marlins. Guillen was recently quoted by a TIME magazine article saying "I love Fidel Castro," in reference to the widely hated, historically controversial Cuban dictator. He has since backtracked from his quote, but this latest soundbite has already made more headlines than anything his team has done on the field.
Do you think Ozzie Guillen should keep his trap shut?

Personally I don't think he meant anything bad by his remark. It was just a stupid remark from someone babbling....

As a Sox fan, I know this is a lesson in futility. Don't even try. My advice, he knows one thing really well--Baseball. Anything outside that area, you are rolling the dice with not good odds. So, take it with a grain of salt because he probably doesn't know what he's talking about.

But it isn't going to happen when you buy fully into Ozzie Ball you get the whole package a good manager with a mouth that just doesn't close and a mind that sometimes doesn't think before it engages that mouth. Why else do you think the Sox let him drift so easily Reinsdorf got tired of the constant turmoil with the media. Ozzie got some splaining and fence repairing to do in South Florida.

As far as the interview is concerned, I think he should have done his research before opening his mouth, but as far as him shutting his mouth is concerned no, just again he should first educate himself, and use some discretion if he's going to open his mouth.

I don't see that happening. Besides, I'd rather there be honesty than people being phony. I don't condone what he said, nor do I respect it, but as a White Sox fan, I am pretty used to it and I don't care as much because he's not our problem anymore.

its his personality ,he wears his heart in his sleeve,he has always been brutally honest.Of course what he said is not popular in miami,he does however have a 4 year contract and this issue can and WILL be resolved. As a former resident of miami i totally understand the fan reaction their feelings, passions and political beliefs go back for 3 generations, people there who have never been to cuba feel just as passionate about hating castro as people like me who are old enough to remember the revolution, unlesss you have lived there it is really impossible to know what its like.Ozzie is learnig the hard way but he will learn and survive!

Ozzie's mouth is a 1st ballot hall of famer.

Besides, in this era of politically correct, and staff prepared media statements, it's nice to see someone from the Bobby Cox school of "Say it with your Chest".
