Nicolas Cage's run-in with the law a couple weeks ago may have just gotten a whole lot worse. People magazine reports that the 47-year-old actor could be charged with child abuse after allegedly dropping his 5-year-old son.

"When the couple arrived at their residence … she parked the vehicle and Mr. Cage retrieved their son," the police report reads. "The arguing continued, and at some point, Mr. Cage fell while holding their son. The fall caused the five (5) year old child to suffer a minor abrasion [on] his left knee, and she then recovered the child."

Perhaps even more shocking than the fall is the fact that Nicolas Cage named his kid Kal-El...

Accidents happen. This sounds like an accident. I'm all for doing anything to get Cage off the big screen, but throwing him in jail for something like this is dumb.

He fell it was an accident, they should both be slapped behind the head for argueing infront of thier child. nitwits, its very harmfull for children to see thier parents fight right in front of them, jeesh.

If Nicolas Cage and his wife [?] were both involved in a drunken brawl, then BOTH of them should be charged with child abuse. There are other ways to abuse a child than just physically beating them. It's lucky that their five-year-old son only suffered a scrape on his knee. It could have ended up being much more serious, such as the child having a head injury. Any couple who argues to this point either needs to separate or have their child removed from their care temporarily. Maybe charging Cage with child abuse is a bit extreme, but a judge should definitely order the couple to get counseling. If things don't get better between these two idiots, that little boy is going to be in a living hell during his formative years. I'm beginning to think that the Oscar Nicolas Cage earned for his portrayal of a hopeless alcoholic in the movie "Leaving Las Vegas" was method acting.

It's obviously an accident. A judge would have to not only be blind, but deaf, dumb, and brain-damaged as well to call that child abuse.

Cage FELL and happened to be holding his son at the same time. The kid is 5, it's not a new born. A "minor abrasion" isn't life threatening, as all 5 year olds know.
Hell, i've seen 3 year olds with more severe injuries (all accidents) and they recovered pretty damn fast.
People need to stop jailing parents for minor accidents like this and go after real criminals and child abusers.

This is a molehill and they're making a mountain over it. Please, back off. Nicolas Cage is a good guy and he did NOT intentionally do such a thing to his own child! Don't worry, Cage, I still love ya.

he is a terrible parent - teaching his little girl to swear, shoot guns, chop people in half with swords, use the 'C' word and order jetpack twin gatling guns.
Then when he shot her in the chest a few times, trusting that bullet proof jacket to work properly.
oh wait that was him in kick ass.....

In Real Life what did he do - slip over while carrying his kid, is that news worthy?

Charging him for child abuse when the reason for him dropping his child was because he fell would ridiculous and a mockery to real child abuse. Accidents happen.

If he fell while holding the boy, then it sounds like it was completely accidental.

Would we even be talking about a child-abuse charge if Cage were a woman? I doubt it.

If it was a mistake, it was just a mistake.

Instead of accusing someone falsely, the law should go catch the real child abusers.

People fight. It would be impossible for that not to happen. Your parents never fought in front of you? I imagine a child being put in foster care while their parents were in jail would be far more traumatic than witnessing an argument between their parents. Ya think?

It is good that I see so many humans standing up for Nicolas. It shows humans are seeing the heart, and want to judge themselves, and not another. What is important is having the everlasting father of lights in us to save the soul, that is what matters. Then that person will be good to whoever, and have all that way, and all will be good to each other, and then war,and jails will become of no use to anyone. I still recommend www.upcspine.com, practitioners for the young, and humans of any age right now. That is a good kind of Chiropractic. will only work as good as your spinal disks are. When the atlas is adjusted, the head does not move.
