When soldiers die, the flags are not flown at half mast.
Whitney Houston dies, and suddenly that's cause for it? Plenty of iconic singers (among other celebs) have died with no such recognition. What makes her more important than them and the soldiers dying to ensure she had the right to live as she wished?
Should New Jersey Fly Flags at Half-Staff for Whitney Houston?

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie scored brownie points when he publicly sided against "Jersey Shore," but his decision to pay respects to Whitney Houston isn't going so well. He has reportedly announced that flags at the government building will fly at half mast on Saturday during Houston's funeral in Newark, the hometown of the late recording artist. Critics are claiming she "forfeited the good things that she did" when her problems with substance abuse got out of control.
Bill O'Reilly agrees with Christie's decision. He explained on the "Today" show, "I think we should respect the life and talent of Whitney Houston. I said a prayer when I heard she died. This isn't a personal thing. This is a preventive thing. I want society and media to tell the truth about drug and alcohol addiction. Let's stop exploiting it and start explaining it." Christie, for his part, said, "What I would say to everybody is there but for the grace of God go I." Do you think Chris Christie's decision to raise the flags half-mast for Whitney is a good one?

And oh noes, Whitney did drugs... Yeah, well... the Beatles did drugs, Elvis Presley did drugs, just about every friggin' entertainer you've ever enjoyed has been on some sort of drugs, some prescribed. So friggin' what, does having done drugs at any point in their past negate all that person's talent or contributions to society? If that's the case, how come nobody said that kind of sh*t about Bush? Or what about Clinton? Oh sure he "didn't inhale." And about this flag thing, okay, you wanna pay respects because it's Whitney's home town or whatevz, that's alright I guess even though I still don't get it anymore than I get boat or air traffic controller signals. But I gotta ask, did Gary Indiana do the same for Michael? If they didn't, then what makes it different for another celeb? Whitney made some nice music and I heard it alot on the radio growing up as a kid in the 80's, but she was still just a human being like everybody else.
I bet they don't lower the flag to half staff when a soldier from NJ dies... this is bull$hit.
And now they're going to set a precedent so every time some schmuck dies from Hollywood or a singer, they're going to allow this... WRONG... Not my flag..
where will it stop? how about for a rapper that gets shot..? or an actor with a big mouth who dies of old age...? so what..
And if you want to bring to attention the dangers of alcohol and drugs, you aren't doing it by lowering the flag, idiots...
sure wish my state did that.. does TX...?
Whitney Houston was one of the greatest singers of our time. However to fly the American Flag at half staff in her honor is a slap in the face to all those that give their all to protect our Freedoms and Liberty.
