Mumford & Sons are known for their banjo-heavy, indie-folk sound, but going forward they might be switching things up. Lead singer Marcus Mumford recently shared with Style Magazine that their next album might contain synthesizers and electric guitars.
Keyboardist Ben Lovett explained, "It's dangerous for us to talk about what we've been discussing for the third album, but we do have greater ambitions not to just stay within certain sonic confines...We're not just going to be the band that stands for folk music or organic music."
Folk music is what put Mumford & Sons on the charts, and it's always risky to completely change your sound after your fans are accustomed to it, but stagnation isn't an option for bands that want to make a lasting impact. What do you think? Should they go electronic and put synthesizers on their next album?
