Should Kate Middleton Sleep on the Streets?

Everyone admits that the latest addition to the British monarchy, Kate Middleton, is as down-to-earth as they come. She did her own make-up on her world-televised wedding day. She’s often seen wearing a dress more than once at events. And she’s already been supportive of a number of philanthropic organizations including the East Anglia's Children's Hospices and Action on Addiction.

But many are debating whether or not the commoner-turned-future-queen’s latest idea is a good one. The Duchess of Cambridge has supposedly signed on to the “Sleep Out,” agreeing to live on the streets for 24 hours. Sure it’s a good cause, but it clearly seems like a security risk for Kate Middleton, who's one of the world’s most famous women.

Considering that people were up in arms earlier this year when the security plans of Will and Kate’s Kensington Palace were made public, the concept of her spending even 24 hours in the open, must be creating quite a stir. Of course, she won’t be the first resident of the palace to make the bold move. Her husband, Prince William, took a turn around Christmas in 2009. So it wasn’t a total stretch when actress and TV presenter Lisa Maxwell asked Middleton to join her to help raise awareness for the campaign.

Officials aren’t confirming whether or not the 30-year-old Duchess has agreed to participate. But if she does, she’ll be doing more than following in Prince William’s shoes. She’ll also be honoring Centerpointe, the charitable organization behind the cause, which was once championed by Princess Diana. But those might not be good enough reasons for Middleton to put herself at risk by staying out overnight on the tough streets of London. So we ask: Should Kate Middleton sleep on the streets?

Here's a person who has had fame thrust upon her and she is handling it with all of the grace and elegance the Queen Mother could only dream about. Kate has been a gift to the Royal family and they should be kissing her butt to keep her happy. Most people would let the newly found adulation and riches get to their head. Kate on the other hand has taken this burden and turned it into something that is actually bettering the world. I say go for it.

She is like princess Diana in that she wants to use her position to help the less fortunate but different than Diana in that her self confidence has come at a much earlier age. She is what this world needs, a strong confident woman in a high place.

What do u mean...thrust upon her? Like it was unnexpected? If she really wamts attention,...i think that she should sleep in a dumpster. That would get her picture in the paper. Im sure that they can whip up a suitable royal frock for the occasion.

Not that it was unexpected, of course it is expected. I was trying to convey the amount of notoriety she was subjected to in such a short amount of time. No matter how much yo prepare for something like that, it's still overwhelming. She's handled it with grace. Do we have to list the amount of people who have found fame and completely lost their religion?

I think you're right, they could whip up a suitable frock that says "I'm playing poor but still look good."

Silly for her at the Royal level, and risky, she should make an appearance for a few hours and that's it. She doesn't need to sleep on the street.

Her business if whe wants to. Besides I hardly doubt during those 24 hours if anyone can get with a 100 feet of her without being slammed by her security hanging out in the wings.....

i hardly think snooty 'protocol' should get in the way of the desires of the future queen - if that's what she wants to do, it's between she and her Prince Charming - after all they ARE married. Security is hardly a wink and a nod considering she is followed and 'secured' 24/7 anyway. If it screws her royal socks on - why not.

It could raise money and she is only doing what Princess Diana would have done herself. It is great that Prince Will did it as well. It shows that his mother left a lasting legacy that can show the world that not all monarchs are bad.

I think she is over playing the commoner Princess doing good. It will cost a fortune in giving her police security and will end up deflecting money from worthier causes and it will do to nothing to help dossers.

She is a commoner as she has no heritable relationship to Royalty. Her parents are very wealthy yes. But are still commoners.

For an American perhaps....I am not over enamoured with royalty but the sad state of affairs is it created and shaped European history. In Britain the Royal Family does create more wealth than it costs to subsidise them and of course it creates thousands of jobs not only from tourism but, right across industry as a whole.

I am British and they do create quite a lot of money, mostly as a result of tourism. But that's not my point. I'm talking about the fact that royals are seen to be higher than other people as if they are worthy of worship or something.

It seems like she never has been or ever will act like some entitled person who deserves more then anybody else. This is a good thing. Since it is one of Princess Diana's charities I am guessing there will be other celebrities there. So there should be adequate security there to negate any risk.

No, there's no point for a royal lady to sleep in the streets. What will it accomplish, publicity and thats about all.
I don't think she should do it, not even for how good the cause may be.

Nah, it doesn't really. It's just kind of abstract for a lady of that standard to want to take part in this event is all.

Degrading yourself helps no one, it is a phony gesture. There is no way for her to identify with those who do sleep on the streets or experience the misery of it, as she will remain under the protective umbrella of the government..

Her goal should be to help get people off the streets, not sleep on them. There are better ways she help people.
