Should Kate Middleton Sleep on the Streets?

Everyone admits that the latest addition to the British monarchy, Kate Middleton, is as down-to-earth as they come. She did her own make-up on her world-televised wedding day. She’s often seen wearing a dress more than once at events. And she’s already been supportive of a number of philanthropic organizations including the East Anglia's Children's Hospices and Action on Addiction.

But many are debating whether or not the commoner-turned-future-queen’s latest idea is a good one. The Duchess of Cambridge has supposedly signed on to the “Sleep Out,” agreeing to live on the streets for 24 hours. Sure it’s a good cause, but it clearly seems like a security risk for Kate Middleton, who's one of the world’s most famous women.

Considering that people were up in arms earlier this year when the security plans of Will and Kate’s Kensington Palace were made public, the concept of her spending even 24 hours in the open, must be creating quite a stir. Of course, she won’t be the first resident of the palace to make the bold move. Her husband, Prince William, took a turn around Christmas in 2009. So it wasn’t a total stretch when actress and TV presenter Lisa Maxwell asked Middleton to join her to help raise awareness for the campaign.

Officials aren’t confirming whether or not the 30-year-old Duchess has agreed to participate. But if she does, she’ll be doing more than following in Prince William’s shoes. She’ll also be honoring Centerpointe, the charitable organization behind the cause, which was once championed by Princess Diana. But those might not be good enough reasons for Middleton to put herself at risk by staying out overnight on the tough streets of London. So we ask: Should Kate Middleton sleep on the streets?

Here's a person who has had fame thrust upon her and she is handling it with all of the grace and elegance the Queen Mother could only dream about. Kate has been a gift to the Royal family and they should be kissing her butt to keep her happy. Most people would let the newly found adulation and riches get to their head. Kate on the other hand has taken this burden and turned it into something that is actually bettering the world. I say go for it.

She is like princess Diana in that she wants to use her position to help the less fortunate but different than Diana in that her self confidence has come at a much earlier age. She is what this world needs, a strong confident woman in a high place.

Her choice. Why are we so involved in these rich royals lives. We fought two wars to free ourselves of their form of governmnet and bailed their ass out of two more to show out friendship. Following the lives of these useless people is ever dumber than following celebrities in this country. Get a life, let them have their's.

It makes no difference to anything, how realistic is it really going to be? It's just play-acting a role, no matter how well intentioned it is. I like her, she's like a breath of fresh air, and a total different kettle of fish to that other simpering baggage.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, is an absolute credit and a great addition to the royal family. It's a great shame that Prince Charles wasn't allowed to follow his heart, very similar to the sad story of Princess Margaret.

Sorry, only just seen your question, Charles and Camilla were very much in love, but Camilla was unhappily married. The other Royals and UK Parliament didn't want the heir to the UK throne taking up with a divorcee - remember the King Edward abdication over Mrs Simpson - love won over politics and duty. I was complicit in arranging an overnight tryst for Charles and Camilla - a commoner. The Royals and Parliament forced Charles into a marriage with another noble - Lady Diana Spencer to produce a "suitable" heir to the throne - how sad is that?

Oh my God are you blind? That is the ugliest bitch in the Royal family however, it just shows the taste a man will have over a woman willing to hop in bed any time.

No, I agree with you, that Camilla is hardly a beautiful woman, but what a wonderful, genuinely caring person she's turning out to be. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it's always been said that love is blind! That couple deserve some happiness, and Camilla is proving to be a huge credit and asset to the Royal family.

PS, I meant to also say right at the start what a shallow and trivial attitude is shown in your comment quoted below

"Oh my God are you blind? That is the ugliest bitch in the Royal family however, it just shows the taste a man will have over a woman willing to hop in bed any time."

Don't judge others by your own standards!

If this is a cause that she is passionate about, I'm sure that security can be arranged and she should be able to do that if she wants to.

Yes, for a good cause-but only if she has 24 hour security enough to fight off any would-be attackers. If she can't do that she shouldn't take the risk.

Even if she politely asked for no security detail, you can bet that there would be a half dozen more 'homeless' on the street keeping close to her.

Instead of having Kate Middleton sleep on the streets......Have a couple homeless people sleep in the palace grounds (or palace) !! Give money to help those homeless people get REAL JOBS !! The "security" and police "protecting Kate Middleton will probably be taken from their "beats" !! That will be leaving a lot of people "vunerable" around the city !! If she REALLY wants to do something for these people help them get job training and jobs that pay reasonably well !! Think this way after a couple of hours .....she goes home !! all the time being safe & sound !! QUESTION: Will she EAT the SAME FOODS that homeless people EAT ?? Remember this: after it is " all over" she KNOWS WHERE HER NEXT MEAL COMES FROM !!!

Well if I was doing it, I would not be planning to eat anything. . Trash bin food not for her, she is the brood bitch for the next in line king. I know dogs well and when breeding dogs bitch simply means female dog, not a bad thing at all.

She's a wonderful woman, but people out there are crazy. She needs either a terrific fail-proof disguise or some security, but I do think it's great that she's so humble, she is a very respectable woman!

No I don't think its a good idea its rather demeaning.
It won't be a security risk because there will be a large security detail out there (More than likely dressed as bums keeping extremely close to her).

You can bet that if Kate is homeless for a day, then several of the security team will be also. I think it's a very kind and generous gesture to bring some publicity to an organization that helps the homeless. Good for her I say. She is a lady of class and discipline and I wish the best for her and her frog....err....prince! May he be a better man than his father.

Its a symbolic gesture, but a good one. Would be an even nicer gesture if they picked out a homeless woman to have a day living in a palace.

She will experience what a lot of people experience while being, at least somewhat, protected. This is Princess Diana's legacy and should be honored by her sons and those they marry. If they aren't willing to do this, then they have no business being married to either Prince William or Prince Harry. I hope Kate participates.

If she feels compelled to support this effort, then every effort should be made to keep her safe, while she draws attention to this issue. Bless her heart!
