Let’s look at this Fallon-style for a second. Pro: Outgoing Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences president Tom Sherak has reportedly been in talks with Lorne Michaels to produce the 2013 Oscar ceremony with host Jimmy Fallon. Con: Since Fallon is the host of NBC’s hit talk show and ABC is broadcasting the extravaganza, they allegedly don’t want Fallon to emcee the event.

If the “Late Night” ringmaster did get the gig from incoming AMPAS head Hawk Koch, it wouldn’t be the first time another network’s star was master of ceremonies. Alec Baldwin made the crossover from NBC’s “30 Rock” in 2010 alongside Steve Martin. John Stewart left his Comedy Central “Daily Show” post behind to guide the broadcast. And even David Letterman took time out of his CBS “Late Show” schedule to introduce Uma to Oprah from the Oscar stage.
But rumor has it that this time around the alphabet net isn’t keen on the idea of the direct competition that Fallon poses to their own hip young talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel. Of course, he’s unlikely to step in at the Oscars since he’ll be doing the same job at this year’s Emmy Awards in September. What do you think: Should Jimmy Fallon host the Oscars?
