Should Harrison Ford Appear in 'Blade Runner' Sequel?

It's been 30 years since Ridley Scott released his cult sciece fiction classic "Blade Runner," based on Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep," but it's finally getting a sequel. And this isn't your typical Hollywood half-baked attempt at cashing in on the same idea -- it's being directed by Scott, and Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote the original, is onboard. Now Scott's saying he want to bring Harrison Ford back into the mix, too.

Ford starred in the original movie as Rick Deckard, a former "blade runner" who's called out of retirement to stop some particularly nasty replicants (androids that look and act like humans) that are on the lose. Scott has announced that he wants Ford to appear in the sequel, but probably not as the star. He said, "I don't think [the lead] will be Harrison. But I've got to have him in it somewhere. That'd be amusing ... We have a very good take on it. And we will definitely be featuring a female protagonist."

As you can tell from my avatar, it's one of my favorite sci-fi flicks.

No. I don't think they need to do a sequel. Some movies stand on their own and need to be left alone. I, personally, think this is one of them. Blade Runner
One of the most poignant scenes of the movie: Time to die.

What is it with the Hollywood obsession of sequels and remakes? It's like there are no original ideas out there. "Blade Runner" is a work of art from start to finish. The entire cast including Harrison Ford, Sean Young, Rutger Hauer, Edward James Olmos, Darryl Hannah... I could list everyone but you get the point. It was a place in time and damn near perfection. It was nearly equal to the first time I read Philip K Dick's book, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"

FIND ANOTHER GREAT SCI-FI STORY TO TELL AND MAKE ANOTHER WORK OF ART.

Why not? With Scott on board for this one, it ought to be good. I say give it a chance. If it doesn't look good, then don't go see it. That simple. Also, I don't think it would be right if Harrison Ford wasn't in it for at least a cameo.

If Scott and Fincher are onboard then there is a possibility it could be a worthwhile project. If it doesn't meet quality standards, we don't have to like it. Let them have
    the opportunity.

Yes, but I don't think a sequel is necessary or wanted. Since there is apparently going to be a sequel, it just wouldn't have the same spark without Harrison.

Why not? He's still a great actor and I'm sure that he would do a fine job. IF the Producer's have no problem with this, neither do I and i have no dog (financially) in this race!

Yes, that would be cool. And of course there will be a very masculine female protagonist, as in nearly all of Ridley Scott's movies.

Oh YEEAH!....I can't wait to see it!...Harrison Ford, may not get a starring role. But he should be in it. Even if only as a narrator. It be awesome to see him living outside the city with the gorgeous 'replicator' babe and telling of his life for the past 30 years.
Which, btw is the original ending of the first movie...showing him and her flying out of that dank, rainy city, into the sun lit countryside. Wish I could get that copy. A sci-fi before its time!!

He is a great actor, but as we saw in the last Indiana Jones age does show on film. I hate saying it, I am very fond of Mr. Ford and I certainly am not an ageist. But perhaps it is time for someone to take up the role of Deckard, if Scott does through with this. I also agree with Barbara's reply before; Allow "Blade Runner" to stand on its own, I don't think a sequel is a good idea. Why tamper with such art?

Harrison Ford is an excellent actor but from everything I read about the original movie he hated doing it and didn,t get along with Ridley Scott. They,d have to offer him a lot of money.

Good films like these should've done what they did with James Bond and make it a movie series. We would've had at least 6 Blade Runners by now. It's more about expanding the movie universe and seeing whats in the creators mind. Thats what I like.

Oh so they'll be defiling the sanctity of yet another cult favorite. Well, if there is no stopping them, they can act least do it with as many of the original cast as fits the script.

As Stone Cold Steve Austin used to say "Can I get a 'HELL YEAH!?!" It wouldn't be blade runner without Harrison Ford. Though I like the idea of him not being the star. He should be like a trainer or mentor for new Blade Runners, or something along those lines.

Mr. Ford is too old, and besides most kids today do not have the imagination that we had in the 80's. They have video's give them everything they want to think about, and all visuals. There is no artistry left, as witnessed by music today, art, commercials, and popular TV. It is all ripped from earlier works. And Kids before you try and rip into me, start looking up what I've said and you'll find all of those popular items in recent history. Hell, even the hair, clothes, shoes, make up styles are reruns from the 70's and 80's.

Heroic movie heroes are on the wane, despite the Expendables franchise.
Mr. Ford fits in the category like a custom-made glove.

BR2? Only if they can do a better job than was done with Indy.

Blade Runner was a great movie that stands on its own. Hollywood has a tradition of turning out very bad sequels and given the quality of most of the junk turned out lately, any sequel to Blade Runner would be a dismal farce at best. Better to leave a classic alone.

why not?! sequels are rarely as good as the first, but with the exciting new technology, this is the perfect candidate to show off special effects! plus, it could make some stinging commentary now that technologies in biotech have advanced as well.

    That "yes" is conditional.

IF it's a sequel, set some years (say, 30 or so?) after the first movie, fine. If they're doing one of those moronic "reboots" that seem to be deluging theaters these days, then forget it. The movie was, is and always will be a classic. Flawless and enjoyable, even by today's standards.

Agreed. It should be a follow on movie, not an attempt to remake the original. They'll just screw it up. Although the Star Trek restart was pretty good, as long as you keep in mind that it's an ALTERNATE History. Not an attempt to redo the original stuff.

Sure, why not. If the screenplay is good enough. I like the idea, though, of not having him as the main star. That gives the story continuity but allows it to move forward in time by several years without any sacrifice of energy.

(Funny, I was *just* thinking of that movie last night.)
