Should Harrison Ford Appear in 'Blade Runner' Sequel?

It's been 30 years since Ridley Scott released his cult sciece fiction classic "Blade Runner," based on Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep," but it's finally getting a sequel. And this isn't your typical Hollywood half-baked attempt at cashing in on the same idea -- it's being directed by Scott, and Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote the original, is onboard. Now Scott's saying he want to bring Harrison Ford back into the mix, too.

Ford starred in the original movie as Rick Deckard, a former "blade runner" who's called out of retirement to stop some particularly nasty replicants (androids that look and act like humans) that are on the lose. Scott has announced that he wants Ford to appear in the sequel, but probably not as the star. He said, "I don't think [the lead] will be Harrison. But I've got to have him in it somewhere. That'd be amusing ... We have a very good take on it. And we will definitely be featuring a female protagonist."

As you can tell from my avatar, it's one of my favorite sci-fi flicks.

No. I don't think they need to do a sequel. Some movies stand on their own and need to be left alone. I, personally, think this is one of them. Blade Runner
One of the most poignant scenes of the movie: Time to die.

I think this will be a great idea since the original director and co-writer are both in on the project! Ford will only add to it. :)

The original Blade Runner was not a good piece of entertainment. It certainly does not need a sequel, Harrison Ford or no Harrison Ford.

But Harrison Ford should not go running after the androids,
In movie script he should have his own detective agency
and have other people chasing the androids.

As long as they don't commercialize it like they do evrything theses days to satisfy 14 year old movie goers, these guys could deliver a great film with todays movie magic and yes let us have Ford. He's getting old n ain't gonna b giving us too many more.

I'm not the biggest fan of the original, but I'd gladly see a sequel rather than a remake. Looking forward to Prometheus this summer!

What made Blade Runner such a good movie was the time in which the movie was made, the actors who starred in it, the technology used to create it and the uniqueness that it all brought together.

To do a remake now, would have none of what made Blade Runner special or a classic.

The better question is, "should there be a Blade Runner sequel"? And my answer is NO. Leave it alone.

    Good actor.

Even though he's getting up there in years, he's still believable as an action "hero".

He is only a replicant in the dumb directors cut. In both the book and the theatrical release he's not.

of course. Should Doris Day resprise her "Pillow Talk" role. Burt Reynolds as the bandit? Should Jerry Lewis bring back "The Nutty Professor?" Mickey Rooney as "Huck Finn?" Debbie Reynold's in a "Tammy" sequel?

They're going to make the sequel. Period. That's NOT what we're voting on here though.

Should Harrison Ford be in it? Not as the lead, but perhaps as an older Deckard who can serve as a mentor (not replicant) or adversary (replicant) to the new protagonist.

    Just my 2 cents...

No. The first one was a travesty - not that I'm saying it's not a great movie (particularly the Director's Cut, sans voice-over) - but it entirely missed out on the point of the novel, including Deckard's characterisation (and in fact any characterisation of any human character). I love the movie, but trying to claim that it's got more than a very vague passing acquaintance with Dick's novel is painful. A sequel is going to be based on a substanceless version. :(
