Should Celebrity Kids Be Off Limits?

It's one thing for the paparazzi to pursue a celebrity to the ends of the earth, but when they start chasing down celebrity spawn, things get real. Halle Berry has had enough of it. Photographers have been trying to nab pictures of Berry's 4-year-old daughter Nahla since she was born, and she's so frustrated with it that she's trying to change the law.

She told Access Hollywood, "We are going to figure out what we can do on our local level in Los Angeles to sort of change some laws because it is becoming child exploitation ... Nahla was just in a magazine and they said, what does she -- and I think Gwen Stefani's kid -- have in common? They were both nose pickers. And I thought, 'You know we are stooping to a new low when we prop up our children and exploit them like this.'" Do you agree with Halle Berry on this issue? Should celebrity kids be off limits to paparazzi?

No; the fact that they're celebrities puts THEM in the spotlight. Their kids shouldn't be collateral damage.

I don't really believe in the saying' an apple doesn't fall far from the tree.' Kids lead their own lives and pushing them into the spotlight is really not fair.

BTW, Halle's little Nahla is adorable

Unlless they grow up and try to place themselves in the spotlight. When she was a baby, Lisa Marie Presley was off limits. That is not so today!

personally, i feel it is only right to publicize someone's life if they give consent to it; a child born into fame doesn't exactly have control over this, so i feel this is crossing the line. a few examples of former child celebs who realized they didn't have the lives they'd wanted: Chaz Bono, who left his previous life as Chastity; John Robbins (the son of Baskin Robbins, interestingly) who walked out of the family business and took an entirely new direction with his career (i highly recommend his book "Food Revolution" newer edition, a great read)

The celebrities who have actually gone to lengths to hide their kids did it well. There's a lot of celebrities out there that have kids and I've honestly never noticed them but majority of those people want their kids to be seen. Don't go crying for the media to leave your kid alone if the first thing you're doing is booking a cover photo for Marie Claire or OK magazine. You can't have it both ways. If the parent is an attention seeker the kid is going to be as well. Regardless if you're famous or not.
I feel a little sorry for Berry though. But at the same time what do you really expect. If the paps are gonna chase you around they're probably gonna wanna chase you down more if you have a kid or something to show off.

Children shouldn't be the ones to take the fall. Their lives r going to be ruined now. They will never get an ounce of privacy and I wouldn't trade my life for theirs because the money and fame wouldn't be worth it.

I think the paparazzi should leave everyone one alone and let them lives their live's, because it's not no ones business what celebs do in their private live's!! Whomever started the paparazzi should be shot!! Everyone has they right to privacy and shouldn't have to watch every move they make or every word say!!!!!!!

Defintely since it is the children's parents who are the celebrities and they just happen to be well paid people in a highly visual industry. I still believe that Hollywood celebrities are still just mere mortals like the rest of us who do not make our living in front of a camera therefore, they want to live a normal life as well. Perhaps like the late Michael Jackson sang, they just want to be left the fig alone when they are not in front of the cameras and just out and about with their children.

The price the parents pay for their lifestyle, if you didn't want your kids in the light, you should have either chose a different profession or not had kids, it's called proactive family planning, something that really isn't practiced much in this country, most just have kids and then try to figure out what to do with them later..and I'm tired of supporting other people's mistakes and afterthoughts, you brought them in to this world, take responsibility for your decision and live up to your commitment and stop asking me to do it for you.....

Children, especially younger child (babies) should not have to suffer or live in fear of their parents lifestyle. Tom Cruise put his daughter in the spotlight. But many parents do not want to do that. Should a government agent's children be put in danger because thier parent wants to serve and defend America? Its the agent lifetsyle. I know a lot of Federal Agents who would agree with me about this.

If having children was the most important thing in my life, I would choose a career that would not put them in jeopardy, if my my career came first, then I would choose not to have children, it's all in what's more important to you, and as a morally responsible human being in the real world, sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it too.

If I'm not mistaken, there are laws that state you cannot photograph a minor without parental permission, and you DAMN SURE cannot publish the image without parental permission.
I know this because our newspaper was determined to always have releases signed if there were any minors in a photol.

There WAS supposed to be a law here in California about the paparazzi stalking the celebs.

And leave the children alone. This especially extends to politicians' children 99.99% of the time.
  • Bastet Flyingbug 2012/05/25 14:56:24

I thought so... so Halle just needs to press charges... unless that law is no longer active... I see that you put "WAS" ... is this law no longer valid in California?

I never liked seeing celebrities followed around with cameras every moment of the day. Princess Dian was certainly a victim of these paparazzi. Had it not been for aggressive paparazzi we would still have Princess Dian among us. Be that as it may, we do not want celeb children to be at risk and media has proved in the past to be dangerous so yes celeb children should be off limits for sure.

They aren't even child actors! They are children of celebrities and they have absolutely nothing to do with the profession their parents are in. Leave them alone unless their parents give you permission to take a photo.

They're kids! It's not the kids' fault their mom/dad is famous, they shouldn't have to have a life without privacy because of that.
