Should Amar'e Stoudemire Pay Up for Slur?

Once again, New York Knicks star Amar'e Stoudemire is back in the news for something he did that can be considered really, really, dumb. No, he didn't dress up as the Village People and attend a Knicks' rival's playoff game. No, he didn't punch a fire extinguisher casing and slash his hand worse than anything seen in a "Freddy Vs. Jason" movie.

Instead, Stoudemire took his lack of common sense to Twitter and started getting "trolled" by a follower. Stoudemire could have simply ignored the fan and moved on, but he decided to tweet the guy back via direct message. What did he tweet? A gay slur. Amar'e Stoudemire, professional athlete. Now the NBA is making Stoudemire pay the price.

What price, you ask? $50,000. "I am a huge supporter of civil rights for all people," Stoudemire said in a statement released to the media. "I am disappointed in myself for my statement to a fan. I should have known better and there is no excuse." The apology is probably sincere, but this doesn't do the man who's supposed to be the Knicks' team leader any favors. Do you think Amar'e Stoudemire should pay up for the gay slur?

As much of a dick as Amer'e seems to be, I'm tired of thought police dictating who we are. Even if it means letting a dick be a dick.

Meanwhile, David Stern used a classless "thought problem" comment as a somewhat joke as a response to a reporter the other day responding to a question with the "Have you stopped beating your wife" schtick.

I'm tired of the uneven attempt at corporate sanitation. Let people think and say what they want. The NBA did not need to get invovled in this, if anything his team would have the primary concern. But his fans can see his comments and decide to root for him or not.

They lucky i'm not Stoudemire, because i wouldn't apologize for calling some gay or a f*g. I wouldn't be relating my conflict to gays or f*gs. I would just be calling him gay or f*g for their comments. If i was talking to a f*g or gay person that's what they is and I wouldn't apologize for what they are. I was saying yes to the fact that they are going to make him pay for his freedom of speach.

The gays don't want equality; they want everything changed to suit them; change the entire definition of marriage so that all those that married before them are meaningless. Then they use the most bizarre cases of animal behavior to qualify their way of doing it; afterall the only different about gays and straights is how we "do it"; is that reason to redefine society?

That's a lie; how would anyone prove you are gay unless you looked obvious; of course you can always tell by how a man talks with the sissy voice.

They have been fired for no other reason than being gay, they have been assaulted and told that it's their fault, they HAVE been denied service at restaurants, they have been denied service at hotels, they have been refused the right to marry the person they love, they have been institutionalized and not let go until they're "cured", they have been isolated in schools, they have been damned to the pits of hell, they have been kicked off of buses, etc.

I'm a black American, and no, I'm NOT tired of this comparison! I think the comparison is spot on. Both have been denied the same rights that others have been happily bestowed, because of a slight difference. Don't speak for the majority, idiot!

A small minority you are talking about; the nation went through a period when gays were destroying private and public property; drilling holes in restroom walls, causing roadside rest areas to be shut down, causing public bath houses to be shut down, public assaults on unwilling men, not to speak of dressing up like women to trick the man into sexual acts; the parties they threw in hotels were as bad as the rock stars; I know because I used to be in the hotel business. The more modern gays are somewhat better mannered but once again to liken the gay way of doing sex to the plight of former slaves is demeaning to blacks.

What do you mean a small minority? This happened everywhere. And to a LOT of people. You're only examples are about what they went through to be who they are. The ones you speak of are the small minority. This doesn't really have anything to do with sex.

It's not demeaning to blacks. in my opinion I think that the LGBT community went through a hell of a lot more than blacks. Yes, both were extremely bad. But, even in this day and age, where we are supposed to be considered more intelligent, caring, giving and accepting, crap like this still happens everyday. And that, is extremely unacceptable.
  • Tuna Z-Wolf 2012/06/28 22:23:32

The only difference is the way we do sex; what else makes homosexuality different??? Why do the gays keep forcing this on an unwilling public? This is not about equality; the LGBT wants everything changed to suit them, not any change on their part, they want the other 99% to give in to them; it doesn't work that way. Every time, every time it is put up for vote, it is defeated, even in ultra Liberal California. Blacks are among the most adamant opposition to same sex marriage.

It doesn't have to do with sex. The actual difference is who you're attracted to. It doesn't have to include sex. How is it by force? They are only trying to change things that were ridiculous to have in the first place. like the inability for gays to marry in most places, or the lack of compassion given when a gay person is assaulted, and even the way that they can get fired just for being gay. They shouldn't have to change. Did black people have to change themselves to be accepted? No they didn't. No one should have to change themselves to fit into society. It's ridiculous to even assume that. that crap about blacks isn't even partly true.

Men do men; women do women; "THAT" is the only difference.

No, it's men would be IN love with men, and women would be IN love with women. That is the only difference. I'm starting to understand what's wrong. It's not their fault that you linger to often on thoughts of HOW they're having sex.
  • Tuna Z-Wolf 2012/06/30 15:50:45
    Tuna
I don't linger on it; that's the damn definition of hetero-sexual or homo-sexual; how they do sex. Not their hair, or their skin, or the color of their eyes; not their height, their weight none of that makes us different; the SEX does.
