Sunday night at the Emmys, Al Pacino picked up the award for Best Lead Actor in a Miniseries/Movie for his portrayal of Dr. Jack Kevorkian in HBO's "You Don't Know Jack."

Pacino, an Oscar-winning icon, won universal praise for his uncanny incarnation of Kevorkian, the infamous, highly divisive euthanasia advocate. But many feel that Pacino, during his Emmy acceptance speech, went too far singing the praises of the controversial doctor.

In his long, rambling acceptance speech, Pacino said that it was a pleasure "portraying someone as brilliant and interesting and unique as Dr. Jack Kevorkian. The fun I had just trying to get inside his head. We talk about him all the time, just asking him things, just to hear his spin on it. It was just a pleasure to know him. It was quite an honor for me."

Then Pacino verbally meandered a bit longer, thanking what seemed like an endless laundry list of people, including the film's director, Barry Levinson, who Pacino said "made the movie like it was floating."

Pacino finally wrapped things up with yet another shout-out to Dr. Death. "There you are Jack," Pacino yelled, finding Kevorkian in the audience. "You're a beauty! You're all right Jack!"

None of the above. Dr. Kevorkian performed an invaluable service to those enduring great pain while waiting to die. He's no criminal, in my opinion.

What Kevorkian did was not wrong. He didn't force death he offered a easy way and the CHOICE was with the patient. Sad world we live in when people can't choose when to die and have doctors help but on the other hand we can abort babies with no problem and call it Choice. SMH....

all the ppl saying he dared to care...why didnt he try to save their lifes then? Do you know that more then 60% of the ppl he helped commite suicide didnt have any physical problems? It was a mental thing they werent terminally ill like his first few victims. You may have the right to kill yourself, but it isnt his right to offer that way out. He commited murder, he didnt solve the problems just took an innocent life that he could of saved.

It's your life , if you want to take it , the government shouldn't intervene. In the case of a serious illness a person should have a choice .

I wondered myself any person sick or not should they have the right to take their own life if they choose. Take religion out of the subject. If a person wanted to die I think it's their choice.

See I think euthanasia is something people should have the right to do, an aside about euthanasia, when I was in college I took a psychology course, there were all these women and one guy, he chose to sit near me and be my friend for that course, So we were told we had to do a research paper, he asked what my topic was, I told him and I asked his and he said, "Euthanasia." I must had made a face because I was thinking, "Chinese teenagers? What has that got to do with psychology., but like I said I must had made a face because he said, "You know, assisted suicide." I said oh and told him I thought he meant Chinese teenagers, he laughed so hard.

But I am all for assisted suicide, some diseases are incredibly awful, debilitating and when there is no chance of getting better, why allow a person who does not want to, to linger , deteriorate and suffer? If I had certain terminal illnesses I would want to die. But it always has to be up to the ill person and they have to have not been coerced into it, it must be wanted when they are coherent and definitely do not want to go on...but then on the other hand if you believe in certain religious beliefs, some belief suicide is a mortal sin and I remember reading and hearing numerous times how if you commit suicide you come right back and...

But I think suffering and wasting away is so awful and cruel, it is one of the reasons I question God from time to time, I am not God and no way would I let others suffer and if people are bad I would just have them drop dead before they do the bad things they desire to do.

But Al Pacino has always been an out there, odd actor so nothing he says would surprise me, he seems to be very different from most people.

Al Pacino just took at place of honor in my mind. Dr. J. Kivorkian couldn't never get enought praise. He's a man of humane nature, and if we could clone him, we should, what we need terrible bad is thousands more like him. I could write endlessly about this great man, but I believe all understand what an honor it is to have Dr. Jack Kivorkian!!!!!!

    Take care,

Goddamn right I want the right to chose to terminate my life if I have a life threatening illness. It's MY life... and religion has NO authority to tell me other wise. Now pack up your fairy tales and fables and mind your own goddamn business.

The story of Dr Jack Kevorkian needed to be told.

Why not? One, he portrayed him in a movie. Second, Dr K never murdered anyone. He gave dying people the dignified death they asked for. Innocent unborn children can be murdered on a whim by their mothers, yet a doctor can't act on a patient's request for dignity in death? A release from pain?

I am not sure of the Dr. exact procedure but my father recently passed after being in the hospital and homes over the last year. He made the decision it was time to go because his quality of life was so poor. Mind you he was a 15 year cancer survivor and fought the fight for many years. When he made the decision they pumped him with a large dose of morphine and away he went. Now keep in mind, this is MY father we are talking about. I felt it was his decision and I respected it and in his case the right thing for him to do. Mind you, he spent 51 days in the ICU at the hospital at a cost of $500,000.00 before he passed. In this day and age you can probably keep somebody alive in a vegetative stage for indefinitely but in my fathers case he was in and out of it and was fully aware of the decision he was making.
