Sunday night at the Emmys, Al Pacino picked up the award for Best Lead Actor in a Miniseries/Movie for his portrayal of Dr. Jack Kevorkian in HBO's "You Don't Know Jack."
Pacino, an Oscar-winning icon, won universal praise for his uncanny incarnation of Kevorkian, the infamous, highly divisive euthanasia advocate. But many feel that Pacino, during his Emmy acceptance speech, went too far singing the praises of the controversial doctor.
In his long, rambling acceptance speech, Pacino said that it was a pleasure "portraying someone as brilliant and interesting and unique as Dr. Jack Kevorkian. The fun I had just trying to get inside his head. We talk about him all the time, just asking him things, just to hear his spin on it. It was just a pleasure to know him. It was quite an honor for me."
Then Pacino verbally meandered a bit longer, thanking what seemed like an endless laundry list of people, including the film's director, Barry Levinson, who Pacino said "made the movie like it was floating."
Pacino finally wrapped things up with yet another shout-out to Dr. Death. "There you are Jack," Pacino yelled, finding Kevorkian in the audience. "You're a beauty! You're all right Jack!"

But I am all for assisted suicide, some diseases are incredibly awful, debilitating and when there is no chance of getting better, why allow a person who does not want to, to linger , deteriorate and suffer? If I had certain terminal illnesses I would want to die. But it always has to be up to the ill person and they have to have not been coerced into it, it must be wanted when they are coherent and definitely do not want to go on...but then on the other hand if you believe in certain religious beliefs, some belief suicide is a mortal sin and I remember reading and hearing numerous times how if you commit suicide you come right back and...

But I think suffering and wasting away is so awful and cruel, it is one of the reasons I question God from time to time, I am not God and no way would I let others suffer and if people are bad I would just have them drop dead before they do the bad things they desire to do.
But Al Pacino has always been an out there, odd actor so nothing he says would surprise me, he seems to be very different from most people.
And if you haven't seen Al Pacino portrayal of Kevorkian. You should. Awesome!
Take care,
JO
The story of Dr Jack Kevorkian needed to be told.
Would we let an animal that is suffering just suffer.....should we judge another persons pain if aren't in that pain...

No to Dr. Kevorkian & his mercy work
and then we say it's OK to
Kill un-born baby's..... So Sad!
But Kevorkian was a visionary. If I could, I would praise him too. I just hope by the time I am old his vision would become a reality. The guy was great!
