Shia LaBeouf Drops Out of Broadway Show: Appropriate or Unprofessional?

Shia LaBeouf has suddenly left the cast of the upcoming Broadway play "Orphans." The show, written by Lyle Kessler, was due to open on April 7 and star LaBeouf alongside Alec Baldwin and Tom Sturridge, but on February 20 producers announced that the "Transformers" star was leaving, due to "creative differences."

The plot has now thickened, as LaBeouf has posted a number of email exchanges surrounding the incident. One, from director Daniel Sullivan, suggests that the reason was a disagreement between Shia LaBeouf and Alec Baldwin.

It reads: "I'm too old for disagreeable situations. you're one hell of a great actor. Alec is who he is. you are who you are. you two are incompatible. I should have known it. this one will haunt me. you tried to warn me. you said you were a different breed. I didn't get it. Dan"

However, one from Baldwin suggests that there is no bad blood between the two: "SL I've been through this before. It's been a while. And perhaps some of the particulars are different. But it comes down to the fact that what we all do now is critical. Perhaps especially for you. When the change comes, how do we handle it, whether it be good or bad? What do we learn? I don't have an unkind word to say about you. You have my word. AB" Do you think that Shia LaBeouf's departure was appropriate or unprofessional?

Shia LaBeouf doesn't have a record of quitting jobs, so I'm leaning towards his side on this one. Also, Alec Baldwin is an egomaniac and a first-rate horse's ass, so I doubt all his correspondence has been as rational as the one listed below....

He had the smarts to recognize that he was going to have problems with the artistic interpretation of the material. ANY time you get that feeling then you should bow out gracefully.

Because it was his first time, i think that it's okay and that even though it is a little bad for his career, he has a right to quit whatever he likes.

Better to leave it professionally than to get kicked out over a stupid argument with an ass like Alec Baldwin.

It is his career, his life. he is obligated to do anything he doesn't want to do. His entire life is in the public eye. What is unprofessional about this?

I agree, Shia isn't known for dropping out and what not. Also it does say he tried to warn the director that it wouldn't work out, that Alec and him wouldn't get along. And yes most of us do have to work with people we don't like, but sometimes if leavig feels like the right thing to do, then go.

IMHO...he showed an extreme lack of self-control and failed people who were relying upon him to do a job. He contract to do the work...regardless of his co-workers...and he should have toughed it out.

You know... all us "normal" people have to work with people we don't like, don't get along with, and even HATE! And yet, we MUST find a way to get along and get the job done, to the best of our abilities!

They spoiled actors get bent out of shape when they have to act after a hang nail.

It is no wonder most of them are divorced several times - - they can't get along with anyone for any length of time!

If the guy signed on for the show.. he needs to "get over it", and abide by his contract - and his promise to the public to perform.

No it's a lack of commitment, work ethic, and ambition. Pretty much all traits of a spoiled, lazy child.
