Shia LaBeouf Agrees to Real Sex Scenes in Lars von Trier Film: Is He Going Too Far?

Former child star turned successful actor Shia LaBeouf is ready to take his career to the next level. Whether that level is up or down is anyone's guess. The 26-year-old actor tells MTV News that he will star in Lars von Trier's "Nymphomaniac" and that it will be controversial to say the least. With a film title like that, it's probably not going to be something the whole family will be going to see together.

The film will be released in two separate cuts--with one featuring unsimulated (real) sex scenes. "Everything that is illegal, we'll shoot in blurred images," LaBeouf says. "Other than that, everything is happening." LaBeouf recently went full frontal in the nudity department, starring in a risque music video, so the former Disney star is clearly testing--and pushing the boundaries.

This news comes on the heels of LaBeouf proclaiming he is done with big budget studio films last week, saying he would rather do more work that allows him to be creative and free like indies. Of course, it was big budget films, along with his talents, that made LeBeouf a star, most notably with the Transformers series. LaBeouf has already made a lot of money in his career, but could alienate a large part of his fan base--and Hollywood--with going too extreme this time around.

He may want a career change. Make pornographic movies. I don't care what he does but it will definitely alienate this gifted actor who would fair better with challenging roles that show his craft in creating a character. Surely he'd be a fool if he chooses to do trash work. Good luck.....fool.

At least he's being honest about how he gets treated with big budget films and indie films. It's not the fame that matters. It's doing what you love and being satisfied with the way they treat you. He loves acting, ok. Not all actors nowadays act for fame, you know? Therefore, he's not putting his career in jeopardy.

His girlfriend would definitely say so.

Most sex scenes are simulated, but in this movie they will be real.
He can do whatever he wants, but there will probably be repercussions for it. Most of the American public is quite prudish- whether he is single or not.

That's tantamount to pornography and I think is grounds for dismissal from the Actor's Guild.

I am pretty sure if he is a member of the SAG, he can lose his card for filming that type of scene.

I agree that the big budget films are something he should move away from, but if the promotion of his new film is, "Hey, I'm doing an UNSIMULATED sex scene!", that's just going down a less-traveled, but equally poor, road.
And I have mixed feelings about Lars von Trier. I thought 'Melancholia' was great', but 'Antichrist' was just too much for me (as in, too explicit and not leaving enough to the viewer's imagination).

I think that if he wants to do this then so be it. I am intrigued and would watch the movie for sure. I think he's a fantastic actor and this won't tarnish his career one bit. Why should it? Yes I get that it is soft porn. No one needs to remind me of that. I am an odd duck I guess on my views of porn.

Shia, just admit it, you don't have the acting chops so you're becoming a porn star. Either that, or you're hoping that what you're doing will be controversial enough to put you on the A list, even if the material is crap. How about you fire your agent already and take some acting classes? It's about the only thing that's going to help you. It's called "acting" for a reason -- it's simulated, it's not real. So why are you doing this? Is it the only way you can get laid now?

**Yes, I know there's a zillion to one chance he'd read this. But the writing perspective serves my point.

If he's willing to go that far, then let him. Its more than I'd be willing to do, but I'm not an actor dedicating myself to my career.

From the sound of it sexual intercourse will be taking place, that makes it "blurred" pornography.

At this point, 59% of the respondents favor real sex in movies. And people ask what's wrong with this society.......... This is what's wrong! No boundaries. And the first person who wags his weenie in the theater will be arrested!

I hope those participating in this pornographic main stream film have bad luck for the rest of their lives.

Oh............and I'm NOT a prude! And I'm not religious. But what I do sexually is within the confines of my home!

I'm with you 100%. That some people actually think this is ok tells me alot about THEM and about our society in general. We've become a nation of perverts. Nothing is sacred anymore including sex. Well, he's just branded himself if he does this. I wouldn't want to see him in anything anymore after that. There should be boundaries. If he wants to do this crap then he should just do porn and leave it out of the mainstream films. I'm not for porn either, but this doesn't belong in mainstream films.

And then of course, it'll be on Pay Per View and cable stations in the HOME! And why isn't this prostitution?
Someone is paying this gal to have sex and likewise someone is paying him to do the same, why isn't it prostitution?

It IS prostitution. Evidently you didn't see my first comment a couple of pages ago. I called it high class prostitution since they're getting paid to actually screw for the camera. They might as well be doing porn because porn is a form of prostitution too.

I've had hope for him ever since Even Stevens. I would often say one day this guy will win an academy award people, you'll see! Shia is a very talented actor. He doesn't have to do a sex scene or show his "talent" if it comes to that. He can be respected without all that. At least he should be. No one should be judged or made more famous because of a sex scene. If this is HIS decision then it's his decision. I can't say I'm happy about it. :(

There's sex in a lot of the movies i watch, whether simulated or real, BUT it has to make a story. We'll see. It is sex, one of the basic human activities, however, this country is pretty conservative as far as things like that go, so that's probably why it's causing such a stir.
