Sharon Osbourne Had a Double Mastectomy: Would You Be as Cautious?

It seems that when it comes to looking after her health, there’s no one tougher than Sharon Osbourne. The “America’s Got Talent” judge revealed to Hello! Magazine (as reported on The Mail Online) that she had a double mastectomy after she was told by doctors that she carries a gene which makes her susceptible to breast cancer. Find out more details in the video below.

Osbourne beat colon cancer 10 years ago, and was adamant that she was going to be put through that again. She said that "I've had cancer before, and I didn't want to live under that cloud," and that she decided “to just take everything off.” She added that it “wasn't a big decision, it was a no-brainer," and was mainly motivated by her new granddaughter, Pearl: "I want to be around for a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl."

She seems in remarkably good spirits about the operation, saying that "I didn't even think of my breasts in a nostalgic way,” and insisting that “It's not 'pity me.' It's a decision I made that's got rid of this weight that I was carrying around." Would you be as cautious as Sharon?

Breast cancer is a sneaky killer. Even IF you do your yearly checks, and self exams, there is still a chance for asymptomatic cancer to be developing. If I were told I had the gene, and there was a good chance I would get breast cancer, I would have the surgery. Nothing is worth the pain and suffering that cancer treatments cause.

I don't think I could do that but then I am not in her group. It's certainly a very difficult decision......

It would also be nice if the article indicated Osbourne was NOT going to be put through that again, the article actually leaves that open by omission.

If I knew I carried this partcular gene that made me more likely than not to develop breast cancer, and there'd been a history of breast cancer in my family, and apparently had a past cancer scare (didn't Sharon have that happen several years ago?), then I think I'd be open to doing the same thing.

Vitamin B-17 cures cancers. Don't believe the FDA, ACS and AMA propaganda. Crack open the pits and eat the seeds of many fruits like apricots, peaches and plums, never get cancer! Tribes of people all over the world never had a cancer case because of having this in their diet. apricot seeds

stop telling people that LIE, if that was the case people would not have cancer at all. Steve Jobs thought the same, and he didnt get the help he should have gotten, and died. Eat fruit seeds what the f&*k ever.

Well his case might have been too advanced at that point for it to work.

The only plant that shows promise to help cure cancer is cannabis oil concentrate, but you should still follow any any possible routes under a doctor's guidance to fight cancer.

You don't have a medical problem with your foot, but you have it removed just because you may have an ingrown toenail sometime in the future... Don't have a piece of your body removed if there isn't anything wrong with it.. Sorry, but I like to see boobs right where they belong.

Not the same. As far as I know, nobody has ever died from an ingrown toenail. They may have died from an advanced infection, but not from the ingrown nail itself. Women die from breast cancer every single day, and oftentimes undetected until it's too late.

She carried the breast cancer gene so there was a very good chance she'd eventually have breast cancer, not quite the same.

There's a possibility that I would. Nowadays there is breat reconstruction, and from what I hear some doctors are very good at it. She can always go that route. But then she's the money for it too.

But I can understand why she did. She's an older woman and she's had cancer before. It would depend on the likelihood of me getting cancer but I wouldn't want to lose both breasts at such a young age.

Just to let you know, I am a man and maybe I am wrong, but my girlfriend's daughter, (beautiful, married, 3 kids, also a gunny in the Marines) has this gene. She had a hysterectomy and mastectomy because here chances of getting cancer were 86%. Those are bad odds and this cancer is brutal. She can do breast reconstruction. I just think better safe than sorry. Best wishes to you for a healthy and long life.
My girlfriend has to be checked for the gene as well.
