Yet another milestone in the decline of the USA.

Liberals will say 'so what?' without any knowledge of what the c-walk stands for.

The crips are a criminal organization built on murder, robbery an intimidation that have oppressed predominantly black neighborhoods through massive violence.

For Compton's most famous woman to celebrate this criminal organization is depressing.

    crips gang violence

    Appropriately enough:

    Irrelevant.

The sig heil has been absorbed into white supremacist music culture.

You OK if Phelps were to sig heil after his victories?

For all you know, Crips started the dance in clubs where Crips may frequent

What's the difference between the two.

Two murderous groups except one was obliterated, the other is still around killing people.

Well you happen to be chatting with someone who spent years 'doing something'.

The heart of the gang problem is the gang culture. Wipe out the gang culture and the problem goes away.

You start by not glorifying gangs.

Not in the American right. The American right hates gangs unless you see civil war re-enacting as a gang.

Societies maybe. I love historical societies.

Your taking it out of context, maybe you see it as the Crip Walk, however she might have just been dancing. Unless she put up a crip gang sign after she did the dance, I would have a complaint. If I put up the famous illuminati hand sign (I hope most of you know what it is for this hypothetical situation) most people would assume I'm part of the stupid illuminati. However my situation I am actually blocking out the sun to get clearer vision of something (extremely bad example I know). Never the less there are still many situation where people just take things out of context and don't actually ask the people themselves. PS that tv was a potato

perhaps inappropriate for the moment. she is from compton. why can't it just be part of her heritage like so many people in the south claim the confederate flag is part of theirs? confederate flag

Oh, get a life! It's her gold, let her dance! It's not going to burn the eyes of the royals to see that, and they are not the ones who won anything. If you ask me, that ridiculous James Bond stunt the queen lent her image to was incredibly tacky. James Bond? Really? If the queen can be seen with James Bond, it won't hurt the royals any to see Serena Williams express her excitement at winning gold. It's not like she strips, or tosses pies, or anything like that. Let her have her moment, people and stop looking for things to make a huge deal out of. Gah!

Had to go with crass although I've never heard of the crip walk until now. Wiki states that MTV at one time refused to air any video that contained the c-walk due to its nexus with gang violence, so I'm erring on the crass side unless someone posts some mitigating circumstances.

And..I never suggested you or anyone else did. I was only asking a question. Many people come from all walks of life so I did not know. How does anyone know she knew or thought it was the C dance I just thought she was doing steps to the ole' Bop.Serious question...what makes these steps the C dance?Ignorant on on gang signs.
    Have a Blessed Day.

Actually, aside from not doing anything after a huge win, seriously, how many people knew this was anything beyond a "happy dance"? I find the crassness more in doing a happy dance than the C-dance. Again, who knew???

no. I wasn’t. I knew she was murdered back in, like ’03, but did not know it was a gang thing. I still don’t feel offended by the particular dance, per my first comment, but I am surprised that she would do a crip-y kind of thing, seeing as they killed her sister.

Being offended is an emotion and I don't worry about offending people.

I worry about promoting a murderous group of thugs.

Yet another inappropriate gesture but at least this one had a little substance.

You don't politicize the games even when the issue of civil rights is valid.

What Williams did had no substance, no point, just a witless celebration of gang culture.

    Yes actually.

The cwalk is an extension of throwing gang signs or making gang calls.
