Semper Cop: Joseph Wambaugh's Hollywood Moon

I've known Joe Wambaugh, the author of this new novel, since my childhood. I played hide-and-seek at his mansion in San Marino, California. I didn't think of him as a big shot novelist, but rather a another former cop friend of my dad's.

Wambaugh, a marine turned cop, patrolled the streets of Los Angeles from 1960-1974. His work as a "Blue Knight" gave him great material, but his talent to convert those tales into sales started in 1971 when he finished "The New Centurions."

If you have any interest in reading the most accurate police stories in fabled LAPD's history, pick up a copy of any of Wambaugh's books and let me know what you think.

Joe Wambaugh is clearly the greatest author ever to come out of the LAPD and with Gene Roddenberry as his competition that is saying something!

"Truth is stranger than fiction," and most people wouldn't believe the truth because of this. Wambaugh does a great job of making the real believable.

Being a retired cop I read many of Wambaugh books years ago. They do give the grittier side of police life not the Joe Friday just the facts.

Sad to say this is the first time I have heard of J. Wambaugh. Sounds like some good books, so I will just have to go find the others and read them.

The Onion Field was my favorite, but the Blue Knight, The New Centurions, the Black Marble, Floaters and so many more I have enjoyed. Does anybody know if Joe will release Police Story to go on DVD I loved that show.

Wambaugh served on the force long enough to know... but he also does tremendous amounts of research. He already started working on his next one....
