I think that there are those among the rich and powerful who believe their are exempt even from the laws of physics. They do drugs, they break the law, they misuse the very people they marry or parent and it's all supposed to be "made to go away" by using lawyers and accountants. If anyone cared to look closely at any wealthy family that didn't have a heavy grounding in religion or personal morality, this would be what you would find. Of course, what can you expect when the family made their wealthy by running Cuttysark from Canada to Boston during Prohibition.
