Actress Kim Cattrall says she doesn't see a future for herself in Hollywood. Why? No one's interested in women her age.

The "Sex and the City" star spoke at the Aruba Film Festival in support of her newest film, "Meet Monica Velour," telling press she would prefer to "go the road of actresses like Helen Mirren and Judi Dench who
have lines on their face and aren't afraid of playing their age."

"There aren't enough roles for women over 50. Directors here aren't interested in us. We have to go out there and make them for ourselves which is what I did with 'Monica Velour.'

"I am looking forward to this stage in my life. I have always felt I have been a character actress in a leading lady's body and I think that's why big success came to me later in life. I hope the next 30 years will be more exciting. I am not in this to play it safe and that's why I do think Hollywood is not in my future and that's OK because there aren't many jobs for me anyway."

it used to be you would never get past 35...she made a huge deal stretching the age to late 40's - but for Kim just like for brett farve its time to hang-up the cleats - at least as a sexy leading lady love interest

It really has a lot to do with who you know in show business. I've seen many great actresses
still working in their 50's and over. Either way, I think Kim is still very beautiful, sexy and very talented so I think there will be more work coming her way. Her career is not over with !

Hollywood gives us what we the public want beauty, glamor, action, destruction and everything in between, but you will seldom see older actresses. Actors yes, but not the women.

I think the older woman can get parts just not the ones they want. Sooner or later they gonna have to play the mother or grandmother to a up coming young beauty just like they used to be.

Yep, she's right. Not to mention many other EMPLOYERS discriminate against women who are near 50. I'm lucky, I was able to get into a supervisor position because I was at my workplace for so long. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have got the chance to do it at all.

If your good, they'll take you. Many jobs that are media oriented like that prefer young people...its always been that way. Acting, Singing, Modeling all of that stuff is generally for young people and once you get older most actors have enough money to go with out a career don't they?

It's the younger generation that spends a lot of money to see movies, and we don't like to see the screen filled with older people. It's one thing for a role as a parent or whatever, but not some huge parade filled with them.

Age sales! This especially is the case for most actresses in Hollywood land. Men that age have an easier time seeking acting roles. Women need to have youth and looks in order to secure better roles. Older actresses do get roles, but the better roles are to those who are both hot and young. Acting also plays a part in who gets selected! Well, that's my opinion on the matter for those interested in this....... But Hollywood is less interested in older women!

Absolutely true. Come on Hollywood, who are you kidding? Lookism negatively affects both sexes but bears down twice as hard on women. For example how many 50+ year old male actors get key roles in big budget films? I can name a good number off the top of my head, people like Anthony Hopkins and Morgan Freeman. The men far outnumber the women even though most female actresses take better care of their appearance! Catrall didn't say there weren't any only that they were in short supply.

I think that as my parent's generation, the baby boomers, age, there will be more acceptance of actresses over 50. (However, they won't go see them in the movies. They'll wait for the dvd drop)

Until American pop culture and the media gets over its fantasy that all women be 5'8, 123 lbs, and perpetually 20-something looking, it will always be this way.
Then again, since the baby boomers have started becoming 60-something themselves and reality is staring them in the mirror now, it just MIGHT change.

Cattrall was a very hot number 20 years ago. They never show a shot of her legs though.
All qualiiifeid, experienced, educated, licensed, certified, professionally trained or over qualified people are having a tough time finding emplyment over 45 these days !

There is no doubt this is true, but what do you expect from the liberal loser Hollywood ruling elite. They are only interested in style over substance and selling sex. Hollywood gives huge roles to men over 50, but very few to women and women in Hollywood cannot be conservatives or they will get no roles at all.
