Not a Giants fan, but Matt Cain has just thrown a perfect game in a 10-0 win over the Houston Astros. This is the 22nd in Major League history and 1st in franchise history. This is also the 2nd MLB season with two perfect games. Philip Humber of the Chicago White Sox threw one back in April against the Seattle Mariners. How do you like that?

Having shards of bamboo shoved under your fingernails while being waterboarded is much less painful that being an Astros fan.... Sigh!

It's pretty amazing. Especially since 22 have been thrown in the history of baseball.

More than half of them have been in the last 15 years. It truly is an era of pitching right now.

Perfect games are funny. Most of the greatest pitchers of all time HAVEN'T thrown one.

But, some pretty mediocre pitchers have.

It comes down to this, It's just gotta be your night. You gotta be lights out & usually there's at least one great play that saves it.

Yes like Philip Humber threw one earlier this year. Also his first complete game...

yep, you don't have to be great. You just have to be great for one game & maybe catch a break or two.

Arguably, the greatest game ever pitched was Don Larson's perfect game against the Dodgers in '56. Larson was a decent pitcher, but by no means was he great, except for that one day. Had someone bunted for a single, the vast majority of us who know his name, wouldn't.
