Rupert Grint Stretching Himself For Two Vastly Different Film Roles Do you like him as an Actor?

Rupert Grint, who’ll always be Ron Weasley to us, is doing everything
in his power to distance himself from the landmark role that made him a
global superstar. Good luck with that. In his continuing effort to
expand his acting career, Grint has grabbed two vastly different roles
in what sound like mature, potentially raucous features. We’ll see how
they play out.
According to Variety, Grint has landed a part opposite Shia LaBeouf in The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman,
a thriller about an average Joe (LaBeouf) who falls head over heels in
love with a girl who’s already the interest of a ruthless crime boss. So
long as Grint isn’t being asked to play the mobster heavy, we
whole-heartedly support this position … especially because it reportedly
casts Evan Rachel Wood, presumably as the woman catching LaBeouf’s eye.
Variety says Fredrik Bond is down to direct, working off of a script
fromMatt Drake.
The second picture sounds equally intriguing. CBGB will be set in
the early days of New York City’s legendary live-music club, casting
Alan Rickman (SNAPE!!) as the venue’s owner, Hilly Kristal. Several
prominent members of Manhattan’s punk and New Wave scene came out of
CBGB’s, none more famous than The Ramones and Blondie. Grint, according
to the trade, would play Cheetah Chrome, famed guitarist for The Dead
Boys, fixtures of the club at that time.
A little bit of Countryman, and a little bit of rock ‘n’ roll.
Good choices for Grint, who has to work three times as hard as any other
actor to distance himself from the robes and wands of the Harry Potter
franchise. But he’s not alone. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson also
are making bold choices in their acting decisions. Will they pay off?
Will the audiences follow them? Time will tell.
