For someone who was assaulted, Rihanna certainly feels sorry for her ex-boyfriend. The R & B star tells Oprah in an interview scheduled to air Sunday that she was more concerned about Chris Brown than herself after he attacked her in 2009, leaving her cut and bruised.

rihanna oprah

"It became a circus and I felt protective. I felt like the only person they hate right now is him," she says. “It was a weird, confusing space to be in because as angry as I was, as angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help. And who's going to help him? Nobody’s gonna say he needs help. Everybody’s gonna say he’s a monster without looking at the source. I was more concerned about him," adding that she lost her "best friend." Brown, now 23, pleaded guilty to a felony after assaulting his now 24-year-old ex. Do you think Rihanna is too forgiving of Brown?

Forgiving is not the proper word. I think she is too naive about him, and hasn't faced the facts of his violent nature.

The forgiveness is for her to be able to move on instead of being stuck in all the anger and resentment. You can forgive and not forget.

No, he did suffer a downfall for what he did and she dumped him. If she forgives him then there must be some reason she does.

Forgiving is not condoning, and his behavior DOES merit concern. However, she was concerned to the detriment of her own safety i.e. how poor Chris might not be able to handle cleaning his own mess. That's a problem. So re-phrase the question to "is Rihanna an enabler" and I'll answer a big fat YES.

I think she's insane for feeling sorry for someone who hurt her, but think about it: I mean most people wouldn;t actually go after Rihanna because of the way she portrays herself, and besides, She proably thinks that Chirs is the only on that cares about her

I think it shows that she has a kind heart, afterall she's not holding a grudge or anything and she seems to want him to get some help for his rage and anger management issues. There's a difference between feeling sorry for someone and wanted to get back together with them. I doubt she wants to do the latter so I really don't understand why people are so angry about this issue. At least she won't have that dark cloud hanging over her overtime she sees him.

After what he did to her? He is one lucky SOB! Many guys get dumped for the smallest things, mean while Chris just beats her, she still likes him? No way. It's not even like he has his own headphones

She still must be suffering the inferior complex of a woman who feels she deserved the beating. This is way too bad due to so many young gals look up to her.

Chris Brown is just one no talent big pig and that is all there is to it. I can not wait till he punches her out just one more time, and he will. MAYBE then she will realize this guy is just full of hate for women and his fetish for chairs, and now worry about herself and why she is even gave this ass a second glance after the first beating. IT is what he does, he may have mistaken her for a chair.

This has nothing to do with forgiving. Rihanna needs psychological help. She not only has drug and alcohol addictions, she is addicted to abusive men.

Maybe he really did need help. Maybe he actually does have mental issues.

It shows goodness of character, open-heartedness and maturity to be so forgiving. Holding onto anger and resentment, and being incapable of forgiving others is unhealthy. Good for her for rising above such useless emotions.

I don't believe she really cares about Chris. It seems like a way for her to get good publicity and e.g. more sales. Chris Brown would be stupid to take her back. He should date as many other women as he likes and never talk to Rihanna again.

I don't think her career is as hot as it was before the incident. I think she's milking the past incident to get added mass appeal, on top of what she already has.

Believe or not, I've never listened to her music...I think others are more concerned how she's dealt with it, than she is about Brown....I think they are BOTH were young, impulsiive and lack enough maturity to deal with fame....But I like the way she doesn't overlook possible contributing factors for Browns behavior...Not excuses ,but contributing factors.....where he needs help...No bitterness....
  • Mack Cat 1017 2012/08/23 21:34:32 (edited)

Yeah but at whose expense? Brown put her and the incident way behind him and wants it to stay behind him, so that he can get back on top where he was. Now he has to put up with being analyzed by her of all people, internationally. If he's smart he'll keep his mouth shut and let her hang out there by herself.

He should keep her behind him, never speak or work with her again and keep doing his thing. A domestic assault case is never good publicity, for any man.
She might get sympthizers but he would lose money.
