Right to Prayer, Andy Rooney

Reaper 2009/10/05 19:04:00
HOORAY, HOORAY, HOORAY for Andy Rooney . I myself have been grumbling and wondering how a handful of people have been able to take our right to pray in public places away from us. So, agreeing with Andy, I GLADLY will forward this email AGAIN, AGAIN AND AGAIN.

Folks, this is the Month that we RE-TAKE AMERICA
********* Get Ready *********

Keep this going around the globe . Read it and forward every time you receive it.. We can't give up on this issue.

Andy Rooney and Prayer

Andy Rooney says:

I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December. I don't agree with Darwin , but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his Theory of Evolution.

Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game. So what's the big deal? It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire Book of Acts. They're just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home from the game.

But it's a Christian prayer, some will argue.

Yes, and this is the United States of America , a country founded on Christian principles. According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1. So what would you expect -- somebody chanting Hare Krishna?

If I went to a football game in Jerusalem , I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer...

If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad , I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.

If I went to a ping pong match in China , I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.

And I wouldn't be offended. It wouldn't bother me one bit.
When in Rome .....

But what about the atheists? Is another argument.

What about them? Nobody is asking them to be baptized. We're not going to pass the collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds. If that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear plugs. Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand. Call your lawyer!

Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do.. I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's foundations.

Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.

God, help us. And if that last sentence offends you, well, just sue me.

The silent majority has been silent too long. It's time we tell that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn't care what they want. It is time that the majority
Rules! It's time we tell them, You don't have to pray; you don't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance; you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right; but by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away. We are fighting back, and we WILL WIN!

God bless us one and all ... Especially those who denounce Him , God bless America, despite all her faults. She is still the greatest nation of all. God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.

Let's make 2009 the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions . And our military forces come home from all the wars.

Reaper, you make me ashamed to be American, to be a member of the human race. You are the most small-minded, intolerant, ignorant, worthless sack of meat it has ever been my misfortune to encounter. You are incapable of responding intelligently to a valid argument. Just because Waiting is Canadian, it does not disqualify him from commenting on this discussion. Religious freedom and the separation of church and state is a matter which concerns everyone in the entire world. If you are incapable of growing up and participating in a discussion like an intelligent adult, then you should remove yourself from it. I am an American, and proud to be one. But people like dim that enthusiasm and pride. I am also an atheist, and people like you make scared for the future, because my life would be in jeopardy if people like you were ever to gain control of the government. Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you that I am one the most moral and ethical people they know. I would never endorse genocide, or murder, rape, torture, or anything like that. But a religious zealot like you would kill anyone if you thought that your god demanded it. The bible you hold so high as a symbol of morality descended from god advocates turning out your virgin daughters to a sex-crazed mob, just to protect 2 utter strangers. Read Genesis 19:8. I'm done now, but I hope that you have learned something, even though I know you haven't.

Hoax or Not is irrelevant! The point is the content; not the character or who gets the credit for what was written. I do not believe Paul Harvey or Andy Rooney as professionals intended to plagiarize somebody else's work. They wanted to add their two cents and get wider dissemination of the message to their respective audiences. As for the Constitution and separation of church and state. The Constitution Guarantees FREEDOM OF RELIGION NOT FREEDOM FROM RELIGION. It means the State cannot sanction any specific religion. Finally, as a man of Faith and of science, I am a science teacher! All the proof any one needs for the existence of a super-natural Being (aka God) is looking back at you in a mirror! The fact that you are ALIVE is sufficient PERIOD. What is Life but for GOD? Science cannot explain it or define it and has NEVER
been able to assemble inanimate and inorganic elements from the periodic table and make it come alive. And it defies the laws of probability, not to mention logic & reason, that anything could become assembled from primordial ooze and goo, theorized to have been amino acids, to become "alive" AND to do it in such a way that it could replicate (reproduce) itself fast enough (i.e. within one life time) for life to be able to continue no matter how simple. The proof is in the mirror, looking back at you is a BLINDING GLIMSE OF THE OBVIOUS, THE EXISTENCE OF GOD. You athiests out there are playing dice against God...think about it.

You guys aren't all serious, right? You all know that the email is a joke, a hoax--right? See www.snopes.com for discussion. At first I took the email seriously, too, but then I looked at it again, more closely. For instance, there's no date. That almost always marks a hoax. Then there's the "celebrity author" or "real person next door" who didn't write the thing at all. Next, consider the crack about praying to Buddha at a ping-pong game in China! That gave it away. (For those who don't know, people don't normally pray to Buddha at ping-pong matches in China.) In fact, the whole piece mocks prayer and trivializes religion. For example, look at the line about Christians not turning the cheek any more. In other words, they're going to fight back--just the opposite of what Jesus tells us!

I see the writer from Canada was upset, but there's nothing to be upset about. The kind of screwball writing in the email is like a Saturday Night Live or MadTV send up. It's a parody: it satirizes people who believe in prayer. The hoaxer is just getting his/her kicks at the expense of people of faith. That's too bad.

In many ways, this hoax reminds me of the Y2K "end of the world" hoax emails that were sent out. One said all the airplanes in the air on December 31, 1999, would crash. A lot of ...

In many ways, this hoax reminds me of the Y2K "end of the world" hoax emails that were sent out. One said all the airplanes in the air on December 31, 1999, would crash. A lot of educated people swallowed that claim hook, line, and sinker.

However, for those who still take this hoax seriously, you may wish to reflect that claiming that Andy Rooney wrote something he did not is a form of bearing false witness. Passing it on as such is a form of rumor mongering, another way of being a false witness.

Finally, consider Mark Twain's "War Prayer" available at http://www.lewrockwell.com/or... Now that's Twain at his most serious.

Dehoaxer - Just have to set you straight on one thing - Y2K? There were no airplanes crashing, no banks freezing all of their accounts, no phone systems gone haywire, etc, thanks to millions of people who worked day and night for months, even years, updating outdated program code to handle a four-digit year. I know, I was one of them! The nightmares did not happen, but not because they were hoaxes - because enough people worked harder than most people will ever know to make sure things went smoothly.

First of all Andy Rooney was an atheist and this was not written by him, second of all the lawsuit about the public prayer before a football game was brought up by a Catholic and a Baptist. Christians forget that the entire reason we have a separation of church and state is to keep christians from oppressing other christians.

The seperation of church and state is meant that the government doesn't tell the church how to run itself. But allows the church to direct the government on moral grounds .

The term American is generally used to refer to the people of USA. That fact you are ignoring that does make me less inteligent. I am pretty sure if you go to any place in Canada or Mexico and call them American's they will say no I m Canadian or Mexican.

Your pics posts are insulting and ignorant. Atheists are just as moral as Christians or Hindus or Muslims or any other religion. I think your inclusion of those pics will show any readers that you have no comprehension of Atheists and simply insult that which you don't understand.

I will to bet if you check people convicted of most of the crimes listed in the second pic many more would have been committed by religious people than Atheists.

And by the way atheism does not have a symbol, because it is not a religion or a faith is is simply the lack thereof.
