On Monday, December 3, the Court of St. James's announced that Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, is pregnant. When the couple was married in April of 2012, the ceremony was reportedly viewed by upwards of 300 million people, so this is easily one of the biggest pregnancy announcements we could have hoped for. It's so big, people are already making bets on what the baby's name will be. We asked the public to pick from some of the most likely names.

Clearly, the public is much more interested in the female names we provided. With five options for each gender, 71% of respondents went with a female name, and more than half of the respondents went with two names in particular. But let's take a look at each gender individually.
If It's a Girl…

If It's a Girl…

Perhaps it should come as no surprise that the most popular name, by far, is the name of Prince William's late mother, Diana, who died tragically in a car crash at the age of 36. More than a third of respondents picked "Diana" as the ideal name. Victoria, a longstanding family name, was another popular pick with 18% of the total vote.
If It's a Boy…

If It's a Boy…

Even in the boy category, the late Princess Diana reigned. Spencer, Diana's maiden name, was the only male option that attracted more than 5% of the vote. All other male options -- John, Philip, George, and Charles -- received no more than half the support Spencer did. So it's safe to say that, regardless of the baby's gender, the public would like to see Diana honored. Maybe there are some male versions of the name?
Other Suggestions
Of course, we can't limit the public's voice to a static field of ten preselected names, so here are some suggestions we picked out of the comments: William, Jane, Doyle, Alexandra, Ringo, Catherine, Robert, Ophelia, Frederick, Pickles, Alowishus. Obviously, some were more serious than others.

No other's personal opinions are worthless, so why ask the question anyway?
