PUBLIC OPINION > 'The Big Bang Theory' Is Your Favorite (Money-Making) Show on TV

SodaHead TV 2012/04/11 21:32:55
The TV shows that bring in the most ad revenue aren't always the ones with the best critical response, and just because there are a lot of people watching "American Idol" or "The X Factor," that doesn't mean they're the best shows on television. But when Forbes published a list of the top 10 money-makers on TV, we jumped at the chance to find out which of those shows actually got the best response. We had a feeling it wouldn't be "Idol."

Bazinga! Talk about a landslide victory. With 10 of the most-watched shows on TV to pick from, "The Big Bang Theory" still managed to take half the vote. In fact, a lot of respondents commented that it's the only show on the list they watch (ever since Charlie Sheen left "Two and a Half Men"). Top-notch writing, classic sitcom scenarios, Jim Parsons' Emmy-winning performance as Sheldon, and nerd-focused humor make "The Big Bang Theory" the most popular money-maker on the tube.

Older Folks Like "Dancing"

Well, there aren't a whole lot of stats to work with since the 51% of the vote not dedicated to "The Big Bang Theory" is divided up between nine other shows, but there was a single age group that didn't make it their No. 1 pick: Voters over 65 preferred "Dancing With the Stars." That's it. Everyone else picked "Big Bang."

"Glee" Vs. "Two and a Half Men"

We did what we could with the minuscule remainder votes, and found that men and women disagreed on two shows in particular. Men were particularly uninterested in "Glee" (4% compared to women's 11%), while women were particularly uninterested in "Two and a Half Men" (6% compared to men's 11%).

Atheists and "The Big Bang"

It shouldn't come as a surprise that atheists were more into "The Big Bang Theory" than any other religious group, but what might come as a bit of a surprise is that Christians were only 10% behind. The name of the show doesn't seem to turn them off. Quality comedy outshines.
