Public Opinion Snubs Movie Theaters

SodaHead Infographics 2012/02/27 20:29:42
The Oscars are over, and now we know which movies we probably should have caught in the theaters. However, with the advent of digital media and the affordability of Netflix, it's almost not worth the price of admission. Who goes to the movies anymore, anyway? Fortunately, we're well-equipped to answer that question -- with your help, of course. We polled SodaHeads on their movie-going habits and compiled the results into the following infographic. Curious to find out which age groups are more likely to join you at a showing? Who goes more often, girls or guys? All that and more below! Let's dive.

Definately the general economy...people want to do everything ...movies, meal, coffee, it adds up...so less outings...more home get togethers, safer, no driving with who you want to be with..!

Why would I go to a theater unless I'm seeing a movie in 3D when I can watch anything I want to on my computer for free? And I have the ability to pause to go to the bathroom, I don't feel rude if I want to talk, and I get to watch it with only the people I want to. Cinemas are overrated anymore.

I used to go to the movies much more often, but the prices coupled with the poor excuse for movies these days has kept me from going. I prefer live performances anyway. Live theatre is way more expensive than a movie, but the satisfation level (if the show is good) is much more impressive. Live actors don't get the opportunity to "cut" "reshoot" and then "edit" before an audience.

Used to be good. Then it got noisy...cell phones...people seem to go there to talk...screaming babies, young and old....filthy seats and aisles...over priced tickets and snacks...What's to like?...So now I just DL. Nothing better than movies at home.

We seldom go anymore even tho' we enjoy the movies. It's just too darn expensive! And, you still get pummeled by ads! If I wanted to see ads, I'd stay home and watch TV!

No, too expensive ($12), too annoying with cell phones ringing, people talking to the screen, dirty, sticky floors and seats. I'll rent or buy DVDs.

No, I get Netflix. The only movie theaters I go to are small, old-timers.

It's not the prices. None of the movies have been interesting enough for me to make time for them in my schedule. I'd bring my casebooks for the boring parts, but I can't read in the dark.

No, I have not go to movie theaters (Cinemas) since last 10 years because I have
my own Home Theater System, a XGA Resolution LCD Video Projector, a power-full
sound system and a Audio/Video library.

Haven't been to a movie theater in over 7 years. When the ticket price (in NJ) exceeded $8 I stopped going. Now they are $10+. Considering in the above graphic the average ticket price in 2011 was about $8 some lucky people still have access to inexpensive theaters. I'd probably go a few times a year if I lived in one of those locations. Movies are best on a very large screen. No 2 ways about that.

Why go to a theater? I can see it just fine once it comes out on DVD.

I'll pass. If I watch a movie, I'd prefer to watch in comfort, without people yakking through it, and when I can stop it when I want a drink or something.

I would love to have extra money to go to the movies every week or two, but I don't. I think we usually go once a year depending on whether or not there is something extra good playing. Sometimes twice a year if there is another extra good movie playing. Other then that we wait until the library has the video or watch on Pay Per View, though even the latter we do very little.

Of course. It's a great place to just have fun with a few friends and enjoy a new movie.

I liked the inflation calculator. I paid $3.00 to see the first Star Wars, when it first came to theaters, in Sacramento, Ca.

It's a good place to hang out with friends, and it can also be a no-awkwardness friendly place if you're going with someone you don't really know.

I don't go near as often as I used to because I have learned to wait for the movie to come out on DVD, and then I rent it. There are times though, that I am so out of touch, I might watch watch two or three movies in a row at the theatre just to catch up. That is usually at the cheap theatre.
