When "
Pamela Anderson" and "the Virgin Mary" are in the same headline, you know there's gonna be trouble. Comedian Russell Peters is airing a Christmas special for Canadian television on December first, and there will apparently be a scene in which Pamela Anderson plays the Virgin Mary. It's a sketch comedy show, so the irony is intentional, but that doesn't exactly change the game.
We asked SodaHeads what they thought, and you'll never guess what we found out: Christians hated it! Oh, you... You guessed that? Our bad. Don't worry, we dug a little deeper than that. There was actually a group who was more offended than the Christians, and you might be surprised to see how teens reacted.
Pamela Anderson Cast as the Virgin Mary: Awesome or Offensive?

67% Are Offended
Not everyone was offended, but two out of three are down for the count. That's not a great percentage if you want to please everyone, but Peters no doubt has a target audience. Christians: obviously not one of them. Atheists loved it, liberals liked it, alcohol took some of the edge off, and men were more excited. But there were a couple of statistics that stood out.

Remonstrance From the Right

Naturally, conservative voters stepped in to defend Mary -- what stood out was how much. A whopping 91% of conservatives were offended by Pam's portrayal of Mary, compared to 82% of Christians. That means Christians were less likely to be offended than conservatives. (On a related note, 18% of Christians were totally fine with it.)
Canadon't

If at any point you considered blaming Canada for this busty bout of blasphemy, put your suspicions to rest. Not even Canadians like it. Probably because they don't like Pamela Anderson. She's like their Kim Kardashian or something. (Maybe not that bad.)
Teens Take Offense

This one surprised us. Voters aged 25 to 34 were 64% in favor of Pam's role, and the number went down as voters got older. What we didn't expect to see was the drop-off under the age of 25. Teens were almost as offended as their parents. Is this a good thing? When kids start to agree with their parents, something must be out of balance.

her face is her way of dressing is vulgar. A woman like Monica Bellucci, Natalie Portman, Liv Tyler ... would have been perfect but Pamela Anderson it's a joke ... ???
I realise she's far from a 'virgin', but noone ever suggested she WAS the virgin mary.... it's called acting. Its a vocation which has existed for a very long while, get used to it.
I give this Mary depiction a
Christ, you people are so bloody oversensitive. >_>
The special that Pam is in is not slimy or no-limits, it's just a silly, light-hearted, Christmas special.
Surely it's no more offensive than Mother Teresa’s portrayal of Elizabeth Stanton,
Billy Graham as Mohamed
or Geerd Wilders as Moses.
Besides there is so much more you can laugh at about the Bible, Noah's Ark for instance. From both a physical standpoint (two of every species on one boat), and a biological standpoint (no observed genetic bottleneck).
Pam Anderson as a Virgin anything is the first joke, then you have her looks, not virginal in any way.....and then, just plain stooooopid...
Freedom of expression means freedom to offend and be offended. If you don't like it, move somewhere where they restrict you more based on religion...like Iraq or Afghanistan.
