Really?
I find music awards can be chalked up to ''who sold the most records? Let's give them an award'.
PUBLIC OPINION > Music Award Shows Are Better Than Film Award Shows

This year's Oscars were a success, as usual, but for the first time since 1984, the ratings didn't match up to the Grammys. Some say it may have had to do with the nominees -- Grammy nominees like Adele and Lady Gaga tend to get more attention than critically acclaimed films like "The Artist" and "The Iron Lady" -- but it could have been due to any number of reasons. We thought this would be the perfect occasion to ask the public which kind of award show they prefer.

It was close, just like the ratings for the Grammys and Oscars, so these results may just be a product of their time. Not a good year for movies, it would seem. Based on the comments, it seems like the main reason music award shows are getting the most love is because music in general is more popular. Plus, musicians tend to be less... opulent. They're more entertaining to watch, even if most people seem to agree that the Grammys are more of a popularity contest than a talent show. The Top Opinion read, "Think of it this way, why would SO many popular artists be in the Grammys, while in the Oscars they show more obscure films?"

Women Prefer Music Awards
The overall vote was close, but female respondents voted decidedly in favor of music shows -- which is interesting, because another recent poll found that females are more likely to go to the movies on a regular basis. Male respondents leaned toward film awards, but were still pretty split.

The age demographic fluctuated drastically. Teens were far more likely to dig music shows, but by the time voters hit their thirties they were strongly in favor of movies. The trend reversed again in favor of music when respondents hit their fifties, then swung back up toward film for the over 60 crowd. Maybe people just go through phases. Or maybe different generations have different views on entertainment.

Respondents with full-time and part-time jobs were split 50-50, but unemployed voters were strongly in favor of music shows. It might be an odd place to bring up "Working Class Hero," but music does tend to be a bit more inspiring, on average, than film.

They should live their lives the way they want, and let us do the same, and stop buying their way in politics and taxes.
Perhaps the reason for the ratings for the Oscars going down is that recent films have been a bit lackluster and no one really cares who wins.
